South Africa in India Test Series - 2nd Test

India v South Africa

India won by an innings and 57 runs

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100

Hello and good morning to the second Test in Kolkata. We have some early news for you - the toss is still some time away - and that is that Mark Boucher has been ruled out with a back spasm and AB de Villiers will keep wicket. Boucher's absence gives Alviro Petersen his Test debut. Graeme Smith is OK and will play. More later. Don't go far. And VVS Laxman comes in for Saha.

To paraphrase Neo Cricket's Gavaskar, the pitch retains a greenish tinge and there might be some movement for seamers. He reckons the some grass has been shaved off but a bit left for binding the surface. He also expects the ball to come on to the bat better than it did in the first Test.

Toss: Smith has won the toss and has chosen to bat. "Hopefully we will be able to put up a bit total again and put pressure on India. This is a terrific opportunity to beat India in India ... This is one of the special places to be play in World Cricket "

Dhoni: "We would have loved to bat first, esp with the combination we play with, bring the spinners in the 2nd and 4th innings but nothing much can be done about toss. Some of the guys went back home, met the family and came back and we have had some good practice sessions. Just one change: Laxman in for Saha. and we are going with the same bowling combination."

So one change apiece for both teams: Alviro Petersen for Boucher (AB will keep) and VVS Laxman comes in for Saha.

Tons of mails from the Indians, perplexed and even angry at Ishant's selection over Sreesanth. I will put up one as sample. This one is from Abhijit: "I don't understand Dhoni's tactics in playing Ishant Sharma who went wicket-less in the first test instead of Sreesanth, I mean Sreesanth is more capable of bowling long spells and getting wickets. This is sheer madness, playing an out of form bowler than a fresh one(Sreesanth) having not played the first test."

Trevor Chesterfield aka Chesters: "Good news about Alviro Petersen, when he made his debut for the Northerns Titans about the same time as AB de Villiers in 2003/04 he was an attacking opening batsman and superb in the field. "

All set for the start. Zaheer has the ball and is having a chat with Harbhjaan,. Meanwhile, Tendulkar, Sehwag and Dhoni have a talk with the umpire.

Mick: "Don't South Africa have any quality batsmen at the domestic level? Alviro Petersen only averages 37.39 in first class cricket, and unless he's been in some amazing form for the last two years, the selection simply does not make sense for a to-be No. 1 cricket side."
