Hopefully all those who doubted his talents by looking at stats and not the skills are now satisfied there are some very, very good fc players in South Africa if they check the CI site and the franchise teams. First to get a maiden ton on debut for SA since Andrew Hudson, Barbados 1992? but not the first by a South African on debut in a Test. That honour belongs to the team's batting consultant Kepler Wessels, in an Ashes Test for Australia ."

Bad light stops play. In fact that's stumps on a dramatic opening day.

Phew. What a day. Gorgeous hundred from Amla and a hundred on debut by Petersen pushed South Africa to a commanding position at tea break when it happened. Kallis decided to play a slog sweep but was done in by the topspinner from Harbhajan and by a good catch from VVS Laxman. The doors were ajar and the Indians gatecrashed into the South African party. Harbhajan picked a few more in a blink and South Africa were on the back foot. The crowd too got involved after the first wicket and it led to a dramatic final session. The game is thrillingly poised now. Will Steyn lead another carnage tomorrow or will the Indian batsmen fire? Join us tomorrow to find out.
