Sri Lanka in India T20I Series - 1st T20I

India v Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka won by 29 runs

No Ajantha Mendis in, and Murali is nursing the hand injury still. Quite a few debutants in here: Ashok Dinda and Ashish Nehra (thanks for pointing, Rakesh Sharma) for India; Chinthaka Jayasinghe and Muthumudalige Pushpakumara for Sri Lanka.

Jayasinghe is a medium-pacer allrounder, and Pushpakumara must have played for more major teams than anybody else. To quote his player page from Cricinfo: "Sri Lanka, Ananda College, Basnahira North, BCCSL Academy XI, Colombo District Cricket Association, Colts Cricket Club, John Keells Group, Sri Lanka A, Sri Lanka Board President's XI, Sri Lanka Board Under-23s XI, Sri Lanka Board XI, Sri Lanka Cricket President's XI, Sri Lanka Emerging Team, Sri Lanka Under-19s, Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club"

Toss MS Dhoni has won the toss and will bowl first. Says dew might come in later, and is also comfortable with chasing. Dinesh Karthik, Sudeep Tyagi, R Ashwin and Sreesanth sit out.

Kumar Sangakkara says he would have batted, so the toss was just not required today. They are going in with four "genuine quicks, and medium-pace allrounder Chinthaka Jayasinghe", and no specialist spinner

4.55pm Welcome to the live coverage of the first T20 international between Sri Lanka and India. Sunil Gavaskar reckons the wicket is a belter, and both the batting sides should love it. Yuvraj Singh reckons the toss won't play a "vital role"

Pathan to Mathews, SIX, only Mathews could have taken this catch, but he is batting here. He hits another aerial shot down the ground, and it Rohit Sharma at long-on by inches

19.6

Pathan to Mathews, 1 run, OUT, the first good bit of fielding by India, hit down to long-on again, Rohit fumbles again, Sanga comes back for two but the throw is good, and Yusuf deflects it cleverly onto the stumps to catch Sanga short

KC Sangakkara run out 78 (37b 11x4 2x6) SR: 210.81

What an innings this has been. Sanga and Kapu were special, India's fielding was appalling, they outdid themselves today. Bad as India were in the field, it can't be denied they were put under immense pressure by Sanga who scored 78 in 37 balls. As a result we have the fifth-highest T20 total. It will take some getting

End of over 20 (20 runs) Sri Lanka 215/5
AD Mathews    15* (4b 2x6)      YK Pathan    4-0-54-1
     A Nehra    4-0-52-1
