Harry Calder, who died in Cape Town on September 15, 1995, aged 94, was both the youngest ever and the oldest surviving Wisden Cricketer of the Year. Calder was chosen as one of the School Bowlers of the Year in 1918 when there was no regular selection because of the war. He was in the Cranleigh XI for five years as a bowler of varied medium-paced spinners. But he played little cricket after leaving school, when he went to South Africa, and did not know he had ever been a Cricketer of the Year until he was tracked down in 1994.
