West Indies in India ODI Series - 3rd ODI

India v West Indies

West Indies won by 3 wickets (with 38 balls remaining)

Good day everybody and welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of the third one-day international between India and West Indies at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. I'm George Binoy and I have the pleasure of bringing this match to you.

Toss: West Indies have won the toss and will field first.

India cannot be beaten in this series, having gone up 2-0 with two to play. They'll be eager to shut West Indies out of the competition and exact payback after the drubbing they received in the Caribbean in 2006. That aside, they are also trying to decide whom to take to the World Cup and have therefore made large-scale changes to the XI that won at Cuttack. Sourav Ganguly, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan have been given a break.

The spotlight will be on Yuvraj Singh who is making a comeback from a serious cruciate ligament injury. Robin Uthappa, who's been prolific in the Ranji Trophy, will partner Gautam Gambhir at the top of the order and Suresh Raina will bat in the middle. Anil Kumble bolsters the spin department with Ramesh Powar and Sreesanth will spearhead the pace attack. Dhoni's absence gives Dinesh Karthik a chance to keep wicket in front of his home crowd. Rest assured he'll receive plenty of support from the Chennai crowd. The stakes are extremely high with tickets to the Caribbean up for grabs.

Excellent news for Brian Lara fans. He's recovered sufficiently from his knee injury and will return to lead West Indies. They've also made several changes to their team. Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who's batted marathon innings in the first two games, Dwayne Smith and Ian Bradshaw have been rested. Rayad Emrit, the allrounder from Trinidad, will make his ODI debut. For more pre-match news, check out Jamie Alter's preview.

India 1 Robin Uthappa, 2 Gautam Gambhir, 3 Sachin Tendulkar, 4 Rahul Dravid, 5 Yuvraj Singh, 6 Dinesh Karthik, 7 Suresh Raina, 8 Ajit Agarkar, 9 Ramesh Powar, 10 Anil Kumble, 11 Sreesanth.

West Indies 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Runako Morton, 3 Brian Lara, 4 Marlon Samuels, 5 Dwayne Bravo, 6 Lendl Simmons, 7 Rayad Emrit, 8 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 9 Devon Smith, 10 Daren Powell, 11 Jerome Taylor.

The weather is fine in Chennai. It's bright and sunny and after the damp squibs the crowds have witnessed in recent years they deserve a cracker of a contest. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association celebrated its 75th anniversary yesterday and Jamie was there to cover the event. You can read his report here.

We've had two very contrasting games so far. Nagpur was a run-fest and the spinners thrived on a sluggish pitch at Cuttack. What does Chennai have in store? The pitch is dry and very hard, the outfield is lush green. This is what Jamie had to say "The pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium looks a batting paradise. It's hard, baked, and there is but a smattering of green on the edges. As Dravid himself put it, with a smile, "It's a good wicket for batting. I wouldn't want to bowl too much spin out there; it's that kind of track. We should have a good-scoring game."

India cannot lose this series and will use that position of advantage to try out new combinations. Yet though they are 2-0 up, their batting hasn't fired and today's changes may help them answer a few questions. What do you think are the improvements that India should be looking for in this match? What say you?

Lara's decision to field is interesting given it's a good batting track. There could be some dew later on in the evening and India have just four frontline bowlers, two of which are spinners. West Indies have packed their side with batsmen. We're not far away from watching how this pans out ... stay tuned.

The umpires, Billy Bowden and Suresh Shastri, are out in the middle as are the West Indians. Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa make their way out amid huge cheers from the crowd and a sea of Indian flags, purchased during the Republic Day celebrations no doubt. Uthappa will take strike to Jerome Taylor who's bowling from over the wicket.

It's been a stunning comeback by West Indies who were whipped black and blue by Uthappa. Dravid and Tendulkar added more than a hundred at a run-a-ball to continue the momentum.

The tide turned because of Samuels, Gayle and Bravo. Bravo got hammered for 19 runs in his first over but came back splendidly to finish with 4 for 39 off nine overs.

West Indies need 269 to win when they would have been thinking 350 at one stage. I'll be back in 40 mins for West Indies' chase. Stay tuned ...
