Norman Arthur Shortland, who died suddenly on March 14, aged 56, played for Warwickshire in 1938 and 1939 as a professional and reappeared after the war as an amateur, playing occasionally until 1950. A right-handed batsman, he scored 487 runs at an average of 1391 for the county; he was also an occasional medium-paced bowler.
