Bournemouth, England
Chapel Gate is the home of the Bournemouth Sports Club, since 1989. The
club houses the Bournemouth Cricket Club, Rugby Football Club, Association
Football Club, Hockey Club, Squash and Tennis Club, Archery Club, Small Bore
and Rifle Club and Table Tennis Club.
The club has 1,600 members, plus 750 colts members and womens sections in
most areas. They have two pavilions, the main including bar and social
amenities, reception, meeting rooms and offices. They can also hold
conferences and seminars, with catering.
The second pavilion has 20 changing rooms, medical rooms, gym and squash
courts. The club also has ample car parking within its grounds.
The cricket ground itself is north-south facing ground, located to the north
of the south-western end of the main runway at Bournemouth International
Airport. It is surrounded by trees, and has two huge double sightscreens on
the main pitch, and the old Nursery End sightscreens from Lord's on the
second pitch. The main pitch has a large pavilion and elevated scoreboard.
The ground is, as well as Bournemouth CC, used by Hampshire Second XI,
Hampshire Under 19 and Dorset Youth. The MCCA Final of 2000 will be the
first time the full Dorset side have used Chapel Gate as a home venue.
The ground is the only one in Dorset which meets the Southern Premier League
requirements, and is rated as the best private club ground in Dorset, bar
Dean Park.
Directions: Access from A338 Bournemouth spur road. Situated next to Bmth
International Airport.
