Tall, lively and with the ability to swing the ball, Huw Waters was a promising seam bowler who came through the Glamorgan academy. He had potential to become a top-class bowler but developed exercise-induced dystonia which cruelly forced him into retirement aged just 27.

Waters, a Monmouthshire boy, made an immediate impact on first-class cricket with 4 for 75 on debut at Trent Bridge in July 2005 as an 18-year-old. He took a few more years to establish himself but in 2010 took 26 wickets at 34.53. Two years later he returned 39 wickets at just 20.46, including a first-class best 7 for 53 against Hampshire at Cardiff, and was named Glamorgan Championship Player of the Year. He was awarded his cap at the final match of the season but it would unfortunately be his final County Championship appearance.

After only one warm-up match before the 2013 season, Waters' injury developed and he missed the entire campaign. The following summer saw little improvement and he was forced into retirement in August 2024.

Waters also played eight times for England Under-19s, including the semi-final of the 2006 World Cup, where England lost to India.
