Graham Stewart played cricket in various centres as a middle to lower order right hand batsman and a right arm medium pace bowler, commencing in Monto then at Rockhampton, Mackay, Gympie and on the Sunshine Coast. In 1978-79 when playing in Mackay he was included in the Queensland Country team to play the touring England team in the One Day match at Bundaberg. On retiring as a player he took to umpiring and has progressed well to be now considered one of the leading umpires in Country Queensland. As an Umpire he participated in the National Country Championships played at Toowoomba in 1996-97 and again at Bundaberg in 2002-03. He has now made a number of appearances in matches in which country teams have participated, both in country centres and in Brisbane. His selection to stand in the match played between Country Origin and City Origin in September 2000 was his most important appointment to this time while in 2002-03 he has been appointed for the match played between Queensland and Australia Country. Graham is a school teacher, commencing in the State system at Monto and then followed transfers to Blackwater, Mackay, Gympie and Cooroy. He then resigned to take a position at Rockhampton Grammar School where he remained for eleven years. At the commencement of 1999 he moved to Toowoomba to take a position at Downlands College. He was educated at Monto State School, Monto High School and completed his senior years at The Southport School. (Warwick Torrens, Jan 2003)
