Vernon Grimshaw, who died on June 21, in Bedfordshire, aged 73, was a right-handed batsman and occasional leg-spinner from Yorkshire who played in 19 matches as a professional for Worcestershire between 1936 and 1938. The pinnacle of his career was reached when he opened the innings against the 1937 New Zealand tourists and scored 103, adding 140 for the second wicket with Eddie Cooper. Grimshaw managed only one other half-century and made only two appearances in 1938 before fading out of the first-class game. His final career figures were 418 runs in 19 matches, average 13.93.
