Robert Dunbar commenced playing junior cricket with each of Margate and Kippa-Ring and represented North Brisbane State Schoolboys from 1978 to 1980, being captain in 1978-79. He then played in the Warehouse Association with Peninsula before joining with Sandgate Redcliffe, later playing at Toogoolawah and with Toombul before taking up umpiring. In September 1999 he stood in the first match between South Queensland and Victoria Institute of Sport and in 2000-01 in two matches of the Schaefer Shield, played that season at Buderim. He was secretary of the Sunshine Coast Cricket Umpires and Scorers for two years from 1998-99 and in 2000-01 was elected to be president of that body. He has been appointed to stand in the first and second round of the National Country Cricket Championships of 2002-03. He was educated at Humpybong State School and at Clontarf State High School, continuing to gain a diploma of business (accounting) and diploma of business (banking and finance). His working career commenced in banking but he is now regional manager of the Queensland Master Builders Association. (Warwick Torrens, Jan 2003)
