Edward Tritton was an opening batsman who was in the Eton XI in 1863, scoring a hundred at Lord's against Winchester. Going up to Oxford, he was in the XI for four years from 1864, winning Blues in each year. In 1864 the Varsity match was only his third appearance for the dark blues - he made a hundred on debut - by which time he had already made his county debut for Middlesex. He was picked for Gentlemen v Players but made a pair. In his second season he again scored a hundred against MCC which earned him another Varsity appearance but in his last two years he struggled for form. He made a few more outings for MCC and Middlesex after coming down. He also won an athletics Blue in 1865.
