Today's match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals will be the last IPL game at the DY Patil stadium. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has informed the DY Patil authorities that the venue for the next two games, on May 14 and May 16, has been moved to the Wankhede Stadium to make it more convenient for spectators to attend the matches.
"We received a fax from the MCA stating that the venue has been shifted for the two games. We don't know the details though", Avinash Salvi, secretary of DY Patil Sports Academy which owns the ground, told Cricinfo.
Originally, the DY Patil stadium was scheduled to host Mumbai's five league games between April 27 and May 16. But last week, there was speculation that the two games on May 14 and 16 might be shifted to the Wankhede, in South Mumbai's business district, because the Mumbai team management had cited the DY Patil stadium was too far from the team hotel. The ground, located in Nerul, is about 40 km away from the hotel.
But the MCA has told the DY Patil authorities that since Mumbai's next two games - against Chennai and Kolkata - take place on weekdays. it would be difficult for the fans to travel such a distance late in the evening after their office hours.
