Indian Premier League, 5th match: Mumbai Indians v Royal Challengers Bangalore at Mumbai, Apr 20, 2008
Royal Challengers Bangalore won by 5 wickets (with 2 balls remaining)
20 April 2008 - night match (20-over match)

Hello and welcome to game five of the Indian Premier League. This is Jamie Alter again, here to bring you the commentary. Sajan will be handling scoring. Today's fixture is between the Mumbai Indians and the Bangalore Royal Challengers at the Wankhede Stadium.

Word from the middle is that Mumbai, captained today by Harbhajan Singh, have won the toss and will bat. Sachin Tendulkar has not passed a fitness test so thats why Harbhajan is in charge. Fans of Mumbai will be bummed about Tendulkar's absence.

Here are the line-ups: Mumbai 1 Sanath Jayasuriya, 2 Luke Ronchi (wk), 3 Robin Uthappa, 4 Dominic Thornley, 5 Abhishek Nayar, 6 Pinal Shah, 7 Shaun Pollock, 8 Harbhajan Singh (capt), 9 Dhawal Kulkarni, 10 Musavir Khote, 11 Ashish Nehra.

Bangalore 1 Rahul Dravid (capt), 2 B Akhil, 3 Jacques Kallis, 4 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 5 Virat Kohli, 6 Ross Taylor, 7 Mark Boucher (wk), 8 Praveen Kumar, 9 Sunil Joshi, 10 Zaheer Khan, 11 R Vinay Kumar.

So that means Bangalore have made two changes, bringing in Ross Taylor and R Vinay Kumar for Cameron White and Ashley Noffke.

Its Mumbai's first game of the tournament, and Bangalore's second after the hammering at the hands of the Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday. Not sure if you followed the previous match today, but it was a ripped at the Eden Gardens. Some game that was. A tough pitch, a keen tussle between bat and ball, and some ice-cold nerves from David Hussey to help Kolkata to their second win on the trot. Lets see what this game brings.

A packed crowd at the Wankhede. Loud cheers during the toss. Pretty warm evening. Pitch, as most of them do at the toss, looks to have some runs in it.

Time to start? Sanath Jayasuriya and Luke Ronchi are the openers. Praveen Kumar has the ball. A hold-up as some debris from the overhead fireworks have scattered all across the ground. The umpires, Daryl Harper and Steve Davis, request the groundstaff to help clean up and even some players - well, actually only Jacques Kallis - start to assist to ensure play start as soon as possible. Jayasuriya, Praveen and Shiv Chanderpaul have a chat about the weather while matters are sorted. You may need UN interpretors to help with that conversation.

Mark Boucher is hooked up with an ear piece and says thats the first time he's seen Kallis get down and pick something up. The Mumbai crowd is alive. Its a full house.

Meanwhile, over in Karachi, during the break of the only Twenty20 between Pakistan and Bangladesh, a pop group entertains. And here they're picking up debris.

Time to start, play ball!

Khan to Jayasuriya, no run, good ball there, on the money and Jayasuriya watchfully pats it back

The Mumbai fans want some fireworks .. off the bat.

Khan to Jayasuriya, 1 run, back of a length but too straight, so he works a single to square leg

Khan to Thornely, no run, ouch! Zaheer drops in another short one on the stumps and Thornely goes to pull, mistiming it onto the grill and then his nose or cheek and he falls to the ground in pain ... those must hurt something bad ... attention on the field for Thornely ... looks like the ball snuck in through the grill ... off he goes and Uthappa comes out ... hope Thornely is okay .. that was ugly

DJ Thornely retired hurt 0 (5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Khan to Uthappa, 2 runs, good stuff, the ball sneaks in from leg stump and Uthappa tucks it off the pads, Praveen covers ground and cuts off the four at fine leg, well done

They've made three changes to their squad today. Lets see if they can chase this target. Do join me in about 20 minutes for the second innings.
