Indian Premier League - 24th match

Rajasthan Royals v Chennai Super Kings

Rajasthan Royals won by 8 wickets (with 34 balls remaining)

19:34 local Hello all and welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of game two of a Sunday double bill, where the Rajasthan Royals host the Chennai Super Kings. I'm Jamie Alter here to take you through the action. Raju has relieved Binoy George on scoring duties.

Both teams are unchanged and Chennai have decided to bat first.

Outfield looks good, pitch should have some runs in it. Chennai lost their first game after four wins in a row. Rajasthan have won four in a row. Its the battle of numbers two and three on the IPL points table

Breaking news: Just like any self-respecting hero of Tamil cinema, Dhoni is sporting a moustache.

Before we start, let me remind you about our Most Valuable Player contest contest. All you have to do is guess the MVP for every match of the ongoing IPL and send it across to 58888 in the following format:

MVP < space > Name of the Player < space > Your Name, Location For e.g: MVP Rahul Dravid, Bachchan Pandey, Kanpur

Its only for users in India , however.

Got that? Awesome. SMS away.

Right, time to start. Stephen Fleming and Parthiv Patel are ready at their positions. Sohail Tanvir to bowl.

0.1

Sohail Tanvir to Patel, OUT, and he strikes first ball! With some swing! Tanvir pitches just outside off stump and brings the ball in exaggeratedly to Patel, who sticks his front foot forward and plays across the line, missing the line, and the umpire raises the finger of fate, looked fairly out to me

PA Patel lbw b Sohail Tanvir 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Here's S Vidyut in his second game. Now there are too slips in place.

0.2

Sohail Tanvir to Vidyut, no run, good length outside off stump and he watchfully plays it to point

Excellent start from Tanvir and Rajasthan

0.3

Sohail Tanvir to Vidyut, 1 run, first runs, as the ball swings in again and Vidyut nudges to mid-on

Here's Fleming

0.4

Sohail Tanvir to Fleming, no run, fullish length outside off stump, Fleming pushes forward and runs the ball straight to the fielder at backward point

0.5

Sohail Tanvir to Fleming, OUT, and he's gone as well! Fantastic start! Tanvir takes out Fleming for a duck as well, pitching outside off stump and striking Fleming marginally outside the line of off stump as he plants the foot out and shapes to play across the line, they all appeal and the umpire raises his finger once more, though this one looked a bit iffy as Fleming had a good stride forward

SP Fleming lbw b Sohail Tanvir 0 (2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

0.6

Sohail Tanvir to Raina, no run, this one leaves the batsman, who shoulders arms

An excellent over of swing from Tanvir. Patel looked plumb but Fleming's was not certain. Chennai shocked.

End of over 1 (1 run) Chennai Super Kings 1/2 (RR: 1.00)
SK Raina    0* (1b)      Sohail Tanvir    1-0-1-2
S Vidyut    1* (2b)

In comes Shane Watson. Some act to follow after that opening over. One slip in place.

1.1

Watson to Vidyut, FOUR, full on the stumps, swings in and he tucks it off the pads down to fine leg

There is swing available if you land the ball in the right areas. Now two slips come in.

1.2

Watson to Vidyut, no run, well bowled, landing it on a length and shaping it away from Vidyut, who is beaten by the angle as he feels for it outside off stump

1.3

Watson to Vidyut, no run, short one now, and he gets back to keep it down in front of point

1.4

Watson to Vidyut, 1 wide, fuller in length, swinging away and thats a tight call for wide

1.4

Watson to Vidyut, no run, another peach, this one kicking off the lively pitch, squaring up Vidyut who hangs his bat out and so narrowly ends up getting glove on it, excellent ball

1.5

Watson to Vidyut, no run, gets bat on this one, steering it off the back foot to backward point

1.6

Watson to Vidyut, 4 byes, bouncer! Dropped in short over the stumps, Vidyut goes pulling but is beaten by the steepling height and so is the wicketkeeper, so more runs

Some track this. Plenty in it for the bowlers.

End of over 2 (9 runs) Chennai Super Kings 10/2 (RR: 5.00)
S Vidyut    5* (8b 1x4)      SR Watson    1-0-5-0
SK Raina    0* (1b)      Sohail Tanvir    1-0-1-2

2.1

Sohail Tanvir to Raina, no run, gentle swing after it lands on a good length and its pushed to point

2.2

Sohail Tanvir to Raina, no run, movement again, swinging away from outside off as Raina leaves

2.3

Sohail Tanvir to Raina, 1 run, touch fuller and Raina drives off the front foot to cover for one

2.4

Sohail Tanvir to Vidyut, no run, plays down the wrong line and gets beaten outside off stump

2.5

Sohail Tanvir to Vidyut, OUT, edged and taken! Third wicket for Tanvir, pitching outside the off stump for Vidyut to go flashing, and the thick outside edge is snapped up by Warne at second slip

S Vidyut c Warne b Sohail Tanvir 5 (10b 1x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

Stunning opening spell from Tanvir. Chennai are in a total mess. Plenty of swing on view. And bounce. In comes S Badrinath, so Chennai have shuffled their pack tonight.

2.6

Sohail Tanvir to Badrinath, 1 leg bye, lands outside leg stump, raps the pad, and they steal a quick leg-bye

This has been some start for Rajasthan in front of their home crowd, who are loving it.

End of over 3 (2 runs) Chennai Super Kings 12/3 (RR: 4.00)
S Badrinath    0* (1b)      Sohail Tanvir    2-0-2-3
SK Raina    1* (4b)      SR Watson    1-0-5-0

Change in the bowling. Munaf Patel replaces Watson after one over. Chennai are 12 for 3 after three.

3.1

Patel to Badrinath, no run, tidy start, back of a length on off stump and Badri defends to point

3.2

Patel to Badrinath, no run, slides down leg stump, raps the pad, Munaf appeals but that was slipping down the line, Raina wants one but Badri waves him back, more pressure on Chennai

3.3

Patel to Badrinath, no run, top stuff, right up there on off stump and he defends tightly

3.4

Patel to Badrinath, no run, bouncer, rising on Badri, who hops back and plays if up off the chest

3.5

Patel to Badrinath, FOUR, wrong line, on the pads and thats a confident tuck past midwicket

Both boundaries so far have come off the pads

3.6

Patel to Badrinath, no run, good length just outside off and he confidently drives to backward point

End of over 4 (4 runs) Chennai Super Kings 16/3 (RR: 4.00)
S Badrinath    4* (7b 1x4)      MM Patel    1-0-4-0
SK Raina    1* (4b)      Sohail Tanvir    2-0-2-3

Another change as Tanvir makes way for Siddharth Trivedi.

4.1

Trivedi to Raina, FOUR, oye, down the pads, he tucks it and gets bat on ball, just evading a diving wicketkeeper, Rawat, and its away for four runs

4.2

Trivedi to Raina, 1 run, short of a length on leg stump, Raina tucks it off the pads for a single

4.3

Trivedi to Badrinath, no run, short and sliding into Badri, who tries to pull but cops it in the midriff

4.4

Trivedi to Badrinath, 3 runs, back of a length, he's cramped as he drives, inside-edging to fine leg, Rawat runs after it and throws back and some excellent running gets Chennai three

4.5

Trivedi to Raina, FOUR, short again, good bounce, he's cramped as he tries to pull and ends up scooping it past square leg, the ball runs down to fine leg where Jadeja dives superbly but the ball just rolls past his fingers

4.6

Trivedi to Raina, 2 runs, mistimed slog, Raina making room and carving the ball over the covers, it drops safely in the deep near the ropes and is easily hauled back in

End of over 5 (14 runs) Chennai Super Kings 30/3 (RR: 6.00)
SK Raina    12* (8b 2x4)      SK Trivedi    1-0-14-0
S Badrinath    7* (9b 1x4)      MM Patel    1-0-4-0

Watson comes back

5.1

Watson to Badrinath, FOUR, good shot, just leaning into the wide one and square-driving it away

5.2

Watson to Badrinath, no run, back of a length on the stumps, defended back to Watson

5.3

Watson to Badrinath, no run, short and going away, the extra bounce beats him as he tries to cut

5.4

Watson to Badrinath, FOUR, slower ball on the stumps, well picked and flicked past midwicket

5.5

Watson to Badrinath, OUT, caught and bowled! The short ball does the trick, getting it to come on quick to Badrinath, who tries to pull but gets himself into a tangle, the weight not transfered at all, and Watson just stands there and accepts the top edge

S Badrinath c & b Watson 15 (14b 3x4 0x6) SR: 107.14

A fourth blow in quick time as Rajasthan climb over Chennai. Here's the captain, Dhoni.

5.6

End of over 6 (8 runs) Chennai Super Kings 38/4 (RR: 6.33)

Munaf comes back after a change of ends

6.1

Patel to Raina, 1 run, on the stumps, shortish length, easily tucked past square leg and they jog down, clearly not eager on taking the second run

6.2

Patel to Dhoni, 1 run, steps down and takes the ball on the full, driving to mid-on for one

Dhoni says to the fielder: "Standing so close, and still you're giving away a single."

6.3

Patel to Raina, no run, good length outside off stump, Raina eases onto the front foot and plays to cover

6.4

7.2

Warne to Raina, 1 run, short and wide, Raina reaches out and slaps out to Trivedi again

Warne sticks in a slip for Dhoni. Classic contest?

Warne to Dhoni, no run, well bowled, champ! The Warne special, pitching outside leg stump and ripping across Dhoni, who pushes and misses due to the massive spin, wow

7.4

Warne to Dhoni, no run, fuller, outside leg, no spin as Dhoni strides forward and defends

7.5

Warne to Dhoni, OUT, and its no contest at all! Well bowled, Warne, flummoxing Dhoni with lovely flight and dip, turning it away from middle and leg to suck him forward into a faulty drive, the outside edge flies to Smith's right at slip but he chases it and snaps it up with those massive buckets

MS Dhoni c Smith b Warne 1 (7b 0x4 0x6) SR: 14.28

There was some talk of a contest between Dhoni and Warne but it was grossly one-sided. Here's Albie Morkel. And Warne sticks in a man at forward short leg. In a Twenty20. Gripping stuff.

7.6

Warne to Morkel, 2 runs, flighted up wide and Morkel drives past cover, a dive saves four

End of over 8 (5 runs) Chennai Super Kings 46/5 (RR: 5.75)

There seem to be only five balls. Asad Rauf has called over after five. One ball went missing. The tv umpires spot it and get onto the walkie-talkies and we will have the final ball. Can Tanvir get six?

M Ntini b Sohail Tanvir 11 (12b 2x4 0x6) SR: 91.66

What an outing for Tanvir, cheered on by his team-mates as he leaves the field. He has sealed this match for Rajasthan, you have to say. So accurate, getting some supreme swing, and after he took out Chennai's openers in the first over they never recovered. Tanvir is down at the ropes with Arun Lal: "Its difficult to bowl in Twenty20 cricket but there was slight moisture in the pitch and I hit the right areas. Our team combination is very good, thats why we're doing well."

Do join me shortly for the second innings. Rajasthan need just 110 to win.

End of over 19 (11 runs) Chennai Super Kings 109/10 (RR: 5.73)
     Sohail Tanvir    4-0-14-6
