Indian Premier League, 36th match: Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings at Mumbai, May 14, 2008
Mumbai Indians won by 9 wickets (with 37 balls remaining)
14 May 2008 - night match (20-over match)

Vidyut and Fleming are Chennai's openers. Pollock is opening the attack for Mumbai, bowling from over the wicket to the left-handers. Chennai's batting order is packed with south-paws.

7.50 pm local time: Mumbai are out of the field warming up, Tendulkar is taking catches, getting into the groove of things. Both teams are wearing black armbands because of the bomb blasts that occurred in Jaipur yesterday.

Toss, 7.30 pm: The roar in the Wankhede as Tendulkar and Dhoni walk out to toss is something else. They've flocked in massive numbers to watch Tendulkar return. Dhoni's a favourite as well.

Tendulkar has won the toss and Mumbai will bowl. That's been their strategy even when Pollock was captain. So we'll have to wait a while to see Jayasuriya opening with Tendulkar, what a treat that could be. There's just one change in the Mumbai team: Saurabh Tiwary makes way for Tendulkar.

Mumbai Indians: 1 Sachin Tendulkar (capt), 2 Sanath Jayasuriya, 3 Robin Uthappa, 4 Dominic Thornley, 5 Dwayne Bravo, 6 Shaun Pollock, 7 Abhishek Nayar, 8 Yogesh Takawale, 9 Dhawal Kulkarni, 10 Rohan Raje, 11 Ashish Nehra.

Chennai have also made one change, replacing Palani Amarnath with Joginder Sharma.

Chennai Super Kings: 1 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), 2 Stephen Fleming, 3 S Vidyut, 4 Suresh Raina 5 S Badrinath, 6 Albie Morkel, 7 Chamara Kapugedera, 8 Muttiah Muralitharan, 9 Manpreet Gony, 10 Joginder Sharma, 11 L Balaji.

7.15 pm: Hello champs and welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of the clash between Mumbai and Chennai at the Wankhede Stadium. I'm George Binoy, your commentator for this game.

Sachin Tendulkar is making his IPL debut today for Mumbai and will take over the captaincy from Shaun Pollock. He's played only one Twenty20 match in his career - against South Africa at the Wanderers - and was dismissed for 10.

Chennai are placed third in the league at the moment, having won six out of nine games while Mumbai are sixth. However, they have played two games less than all the other teams and have the momentum of a hat-trick of wins against strong opponents going for them.

"One of the vital aspects of Mumbai's wins, acknowledged by Tendulkar as well, has been the success of their new-ball pair of Shaun Pollock and Ashish Nehra, who have consistently troubled the opposition top order with their accuracy, variation and tireless efforts to keep the batsmen in check. They reduced Rajasthan to 21 for 2 in three overs and had Delhi reeling at 12 for 2 in the second over. Pollock also dismissed the Kolkata Knight Riders' openers in the first over." 9.42 pm local time: Chennai finish with 156 for 6 after 20 overs which is more than they looked like getting when they were sinking at 89 for 4 after 15 overs. They scored 67 off the final five overs thanks to Dhoni and Badrinath who turned on the pressure once again. The target isn't the largest but there's a bit in the pitch for the fast bowlers. Interesting that Tendulkar didn't give Jayasuriya a single over.

"An unbelievably bad last over. I really dont see why Tendulkar wanted 6 different bowlers bowling the same type of delivery. He should definitely have used himself or Sanath. Completely wasted game. I really do not see why Pollock could not have retained his captaincy, he was winning," says Anthony.

I'll be back in ten minutes for Mumbai's chase. Tendulkar and Jayasuriya will be opening the batting.
