Indian Premier League - 54th match

Deccan Chargers v Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings won by 7 wickets (with 4 balls remaining)

7.58 pm local time: So we're ready to begin. Gilchrist has one final chance to entertain the Hyderabad crowd in 2008 and with him is Herschelle Gibbs.

Makhaya Ntini will open the attack for Chennai, from over the wicket. One slip in place.

Toss, 7.30 pm: Adam Gilchrist has won the toss and Deccan Chargers will bat. Mahendra Singh Dhoni says he would have bowled first so it "doesn't make much of a difference".

This is a big match, Chennai's chance to secure a semi-final berth and knock out Mumbai. Chennai haven't made any changes to their XI from the match against Rajasthan.

Chennai Super Kings: 1 Parthiv Patel (wk), Stephen Fleming, 3 Suresh Raina, 4 Albie Morkel, 5 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), 6 S Badrinath, 7 Abhinav Mukund, 8 Manpreet Gony, 9 L Balaji, 10, Muttiah Muralitharan, 11 Makhaya Ntini.

It's all about pride and more pride for Deccan, who won the wooden spoon after the loss to Bangalore. They've made a few tweaks to their line-up. I'll tell you what they are as soon as I know.

Deccan have brought back Shahid Afridi, Scott Styris, Sarvesh Kumar and Pragyan Ojha and left out Rohit Sharma, who may be injured, Chamara Silva, Chaminda Vaas and Sanjay Bangar.

Deccan Chargers: 1 Adam Gilchrist (capt/wk), 2 Herschelle Gibbs, 3 Scott Styris, 4 Venugopal Rao, 5 Shahid Afridi, 6 Ravi Teja, 7 Arjun Yadav, 8 Pragyan Ohja, 9 Sarvesh Kumar, 10 RP Singh, 11 P Vijaykumar.

7.20 pm Good evening everybody and welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of the match that could possibly render tomorrow's games irrelevant in the context of semi-final spots. Today's game is between Deccan Chargers and Chennai Super Kings in Hyderabad, and if Chennai win, they will join Rajasthan, Punjab and Delhi as the semi-finalists of the first edition of the IPL. I'm George Binoy, and I'll be your commentator for this game.

If Chennai lose today, the race for the final semi-final spot shifts to Mumbai Indians' final game against the Bangalore Royal Challengers. If Mumbai lose that game, Chennai go through. For Chennai to be knocked out, Mumbai must win. Even if tomorrow's match is abandoned, Chennai will qualify.

Deccan haven't won a game at home yet, and they've lost their last six matches. Their previous win came against ... Chennai.

The toss will happen at 7.30 pm local time, about ten minutes from now.

If you've enjoyed the television commentary during the IPL, you can vote for some of those commentators on Cricinfo's commentators poll.

9.34 pm local time: Deccan have been restricted to 147 for 8. An excellent performance from Chennai's bowlers and they'll be confident of chasing this especially since Deccan's bowling attack isn't the scariest in the tournament. Chennai need to win to cement a semi-final spot and knock out Mumbai.

"At the start of the tournament, Deccan Chargers were the favourites to win the IPL championship. Their explosive batting was a let down. They didn't have wicket taking bowlers who could turn things around in an over. Fielding was up and down. They just didn't have a winning formula. Hopefully they will get their act together next year. For this year though, they are Disappointing Chargers," says Kautilya.

Well don't write them off already. We've got half a match to go. I'll be back in ten minutes for the run-chase.
