Indian Premier League - 35th match

Delhi Daredevils v Mumbai Indians

Delhi Daredevils won by 7 wickets (with 7 balls remaining)

Not too many to chase for Delhi. Warner and Gambhir are set. If they get going this could be over inside ten overs. But Mumbai have Malinga, mind you.

0.1

Malinga to Gambhir, no run, as so often happens when opening bowlers are first bowling to Gambhir, Malinga pitches on the pads and is lucky the flick it cut off by midwicket

0.2

Malinga to Gambhir, no run, just a tad straighter on middle and leg and he checks his attempted flick

0.3

Malinga to Gambhir, 1 run, again wrong line, full and on the toes and clipped to deep fine leg

0.4

Malinga to Warner, no run, good stuff this, right up there on the stumps and Warner does well to make a bit of room and bunts the ball down past Gambhir, mid-off does well to get across

0.5

Malinga to Warner, no run, aiming at middle and off, Warner gets back and pushes to cover

There's a silly mid-off on ...

0.6

Malinga to Warner, 2 wides, sprayed down the pads, slower ball, and Shah fumbles the collection

0.6

Malinga to Gambhir, 1 wide, short this time and still wide of the pads so another freebie

0.6

Malinga to Gambhir, FOUR, half-volley outside off stump and Gambhir doesn't disappoint, square-driving into the window between cover and point for the first four of the innings

End of over 1 (8 runs) Delhi Daredevils 8/0 (109 runs required from 19 overs, RR: 8.00, RRR: 5.73)
G Gambhir    5* (4b 1x4)      SL Malinga    1-0-8-0
DA Warner    0* (2b)

DA Warner    11* (11b 1x6)      SL Malinga    2-0-17-0

3.5

Kulkarni to Warner, no run, slower one bowled short on the off, clatters it straight to cover, too many slower ones we've seen today

3.6

5.6

Kulkarni to Warner, 1 run, dropped it short, slapped it past the bowler on the bounce to mid-off for a quick single

Delhi are taking their time here. They're well on course though. Mumbai needed early wickets and they haven't got them. Only a Mumbai-like collapse against Deccan will dent Delhi's chances here

End of over 6 (3 runs) Delhi Daredevils 36/0 (81 runs required from 14 overs, RR: 6.00, RRR: 5.78)

Duminy into the attack

8.1

Duminy to Warner, no run, short of a good length on the off, punched back to the bowler

8.2

Duminy to Warner, OUT, stumped, tossed up and Warner's eyes lit up, stepped out of the crease to dismiss that over long-on, the ball spun away to beat the swing of the bat and Pinal dislodged the bails to find him short

DA Warner st †Shah b Duminy 21 (30b 0x4 1x6) SR: 70.00

Uncharacteristically slow there Warner, lost his patience.

End of over 9 (4 runs) Delhi Daredevils 46/1 (71 runs required from 11 overs, RR: 5.11, RRR: 6.45)
G Gambhir    19* (22b 2x4)      JP Duminy    1-0-4-1
TM Dilshan    2* (2b)      Harbhajan Singh    1-0-4-0

9.1

Harbhajan Singh to Gambhir, OUT, Gambhir falls, this gets a little interesting now, tossed up outside off, came down the track and drove it uppishly, did so well but found the fielder stationed perfectly for that at deep cover, Ronchi ran a few steps to his left and took it well

G Gambhir c Ronchi b Harbhajan Singh 19 (23b 2x4 0x6) SR: 82.60

The openers are gone. Delhi's two most productive batsmen are out in the middle. Mumbai have done well to take those wickets in quick succession

9.2

Harbhajan Singh to Dilshan, 1 run, on middle and leg, flicked away over square leg for a single

9.3

Harbhajan Singh to de Villiers, FOUR, risky shot, fetched it from outside off, went way across and swept it wide of leg slip for a boundary, was uppish and had Harbhajan interested just for a moment

9.4

9.5

Harbhajan Singh to Dilshan, no run, on middle and off, spun in, tried to dab it into the off side, got a thickish inside edge towards midwicket

9.6

Harbhajan Singh to Dilshan, no run, excelent fielding by Duminy at short fine, made room to cut, got an under edge past the keeper but a diving leg slip at least saved a couple

Those two wickets have made it a little difficult for Delhi here, but they still hold a big advantage. Mumbai don't seem to have got too many here. Ron: "Daredevils are driving themselves into a corner now. Once that asking rate climbs, wickets can tumble in a need for acceleration."

Chris Gayle is too cool for cricket but plays anyway because finding something else to do would be such a drag. In our CV feature.

End of over 10 (6 runs) Delhi Daredevils 52/2 (65 runs required from 60 balls, RR: 5.20, RRR: 6.50)

TM Dilshan c †Shah b Malinga 17 (19b 2x4 0x6) SR: 89.47

The end of a matchwinning stand. Handled the pressure well after the loss of the openers.

Steve: "This has been Mumbai's problem throughout the tournament, too many bowling choices and the inability of Sachin to use them at the right time. There was no need for him to bring himself on, Bravo could have bowled out from that end and let Malinga and Raje finish the other two overs. Its so disappointing. "

17.6

Malinga to Karthik, no run, yorker on middle and leg, did well to keep it out, played it wide of midwicket

End of over 18 (3 runs) Delhi Daredevils 107/3 (10 runs required from 12 balls, RR: 5.94, RRR: 5.00)

Kalu: "Who was the pitch reporter today? I think he might have read the practice pitch, predicting a run feast." Yes, blame it all on Rameez Raja and Jeremy Coney

18.1

Raje to de Villiers, FOUR, full toss outside off, steered from the crease wide of point to beat third man, nicely timed

18.2

Raje to de Villiers, 1 run, length ball on middle, bunted down the ground to long-on

18.5

Raje to Karthik, FOUR, all over, full toss on middle, pushed away between square leg and midwicket for a boundary to seal a seven-wicket win

Delhi go to the top of the table. They were expected to after limiting Mumbai to 116, and though they were kept in check after the loss of their openers, a gift-over from Tendulkar relieved the pressure significantly. He bowled dollies, and de Villiers did well to give them the deserved treatment to help take his team to its sixth win in the competition. Delhi are the team to beat now, and Mumbai, after an encouraging start to the tournament, lose yet another one, this time while batting first. They remain in seventh place, and their chances at a place in the top four are gradually withering away. Join us in a bit for the presentation.

Tendulkar: "We were very much there with our bowling and fielding except my over. We didn't want to give them pace onto the bat, which is why I brought myself on and that is where things started changing."

Nehra is the Man of the Match

Nehra: "I'm bowling quite well especially with the old ball. I'm bowling well in the slog overs, and up front, I was bowling against the wind but it's going well. This game was very important, and a couple of more wins and we can seal a place in the semi finals."

Gambhir: "It was important to carry the momentum, it's a format where once you lose it, it's difficult to get it back. We had wickets in hand, so we were confident of pulling it off despite needing eight-an-over. We bowled really well to restrict them. We want Sehwag back when he is fully fit, but we don't want to rush him in."

That's all we have from here folks. Thanks for your feedback. Hope you enjoyed the coverage. Until tomorrow, it's goodbye from all of us here at Cricinfo.
