Indian Premier League - 38th match

Royal Challengers Bangalore v Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians won by 16 runs

12.25 The Bangalore team comes out to field on a sunny day in Port Elizabeth. A fair crowd is in to cheer on Sanath Jayasuriya and Sachin Tendulkar to the crease. These two need to fire, after a lean patch in the recent games. Jacques Kallis to open the bowling, Jayasuriya to face

12.10 These are the teams: Mumbai: Sanath Jaysuriya, Sachin Tendulkar (capt), JP Duminy, Abhishek Nayar, Dwayne Bravo, Harbhajan Singh, Yogesh Takawale (wk), Ajinkya Rahane, Chetanya Nanda, Dhawal Kulkarni, Lasith Malinga

Bangalore Jacques Kallis, Robin Uthappa, Ross Taylor, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, Roelof van der Merwe, Mark Boucher (wk), KP Appanna, Abhmanyu Mithun, R Vinay Kumar, Anil Kumble (capt)

There's no place for Wasim Jaffer or Praveen Kumar in the Bangalore line-up, and Zaheer Khan hasn't recovered from his injury yet, so Mumbai won't be having his services for this game.

There's still some 15 minutes to find out how Sachin Tendulkar & Co fare with the bat, why don't you check out some of our latest offerings in the 'Page 2' section in the meantime. Sriram Veera finds out the artillery comes out at the toss these days. Plus, more accounts of post-match fraternising. All in the Daily Dose.

Rebecca Lee and her cheerleader pals hand out tips and tricks to kids on the sidelines of a game. More in her diary, here. We've waded through the cesspool of IPL commentary so you don't have to. Check out our Hear Hear pages.

12.00 Toss Mumbai have won the toss and chosen to bat. The big news is that Sanath Jayasuriya is back, and Chetanya Nanda comes in for Rohan Raje.

Bangalore have made three changes, Ross Taylor, KP Appanna, and Abhmanyu Mithun have been included. Mithun is a 19-year old medium pacer for Karnataka, and he is yet to play a Twenty20 match.

11.55 The IPL bandwagon rolls on to its 38th game in South Africa, and the neither of the two teams can afford a slip-up. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians are already off the pace in the race for spots in the final four, and a loss today will make their chances even slimmer.

There's still plenty of time for you to make changes to your Fantasy teams. We are running two versions of the game, the regular salary cap game as well as a pick 'em fantasy. There are prizes for both, go here for details.

And that will be the tactical time-out. It has been fairly subdued stuff from both teams so far, not too much fireworks yet. Bangalore have got two big wickets, of Sachin and Jayasuriya, but Rahane is looking well set, and Mumbai still have some batting to come.

There's been plenty of criticism of the over-the-top commentary on television during the IPL. We've picked out some of the, er, gems which you can check out on our Hear Hear pages.

Anand from the US writes in: "Is that a tactical timeout or a strategic timeout? The two things could be very different. In a tactical timeout, they're probably talking about how to play a Kumble googly. In a strategic timeout, they're talking about their next match because this one is already lost!" Any answers to that?

Vinay Kumar to Duminy, no run, back of a length, outside off, Duminy throws his bat at it, doesn't connect, dot balls at this stage are precious for Bangalore

18.5

Vinay Kumar to Duminy, FOUR, makes up for the previous ball with a wonderful shot, this was fuller and a bit wide, Duminy came down a step, bent his knee and carved it past the covers for a four to bring up his half-century

18.6

Vinay Kumar to Duminy, 1 run, crunched to mid-on for a single which helps him retain the strike

End of over 19 (9 runs) Mumbai Indians 143/2 (RR: 7.52)
JP Duminy    53* (38b 1x4 3x6)      R Vinay Kumar    4-0-30-1
AM Rahane    55* (46b 3x4 1x6)      A Kumble    4-0-32-0

After a bit of a discussion, it's decided that the inexperienced Mithun is given the last over, starts around the wicket

19.1

Mithun to Duminy, 1 wide, that was full and wide, just a touch too wide

19.1

Mithun to Duminy, FOUR, full toss, wide outside off, Duminy adjust superbly to crash it past a diving point fielder at the boundary

19.2

Mithun to Duminy, 1 run, an attempted swipe is edged down to fine leg for a single this time

19.3

Mithun to Rahane, FOUR, great shot from Rahane, that was a low full toss, on off and middle, Rahane walked across his stumps and turns it past short fine leg for a boundary

that's the hundred partnership as well

19.4

Mithun to Rahane, 1 run, this time Rahane punches the full ball it to cover for a single

19.5

Mithun to Duminy, 1 run, slammed down the ground by Duminy, but the placement isn't great, goes straight to the man in the deep

19.6

Mithun to Rahane, 2 runs, into the blockhole to finish the innings, Rahane whips it wide of square leg, where Virat Kohli has plenty of ground to cover before cutting it off

So Mumbai finish on a competitive 157, perhaps they might have wanted more towards the end given the number of wickets they had in mind. There really wasn't any really big over, as the Bangalore bowler kept it tight. Rahane showed the form that made him so dangerous during the domestic season while Duminy collected another assured half-century, and is now third in the race for the Orange Cap.

Several fans aren't too thrilled with Kumble's decision to give debutant Mithun the final over. "Giving the ball to the inexperienced Mithun for the last over is absolute rubbish," says Mohan. It was a bit of strange decision, given that van der Merwe, who had bowled so well till then, still had an over to spare.

End of over 20 (14 runs) Mumbai Indians 157/2
AM Rahane    62* (49b 4x4 1x6)      A Mithun    4-0-42-0
JP Duminy    59* (41b 2x4 3x6)      R Vinay Kumar    4-0-30-1
