And that will be the strategic time-out. Mumbai well on top at this stage, with the required-rate in double-digits, and several of Bangalore big names dismissed.

And on the decision to give Mithun the final over of the Mumbai innings, Shriram writes in from the Netherlands: "I have a theory behind the masterstroke. I feel if a batsman has a realtively decent game and scored soem runs , he should be given the ball and his luck will carry ahead with team. For example in the case of suresh raina, he had contributed 30 odd runs earlier in that match. Similarly T.suman and rohit sharma who picked 6 wickets amongst them against mumbai had contributed with the bat too scoring a fast 20 and 38 respectively. So for a masterstroke to click , ball should not be passed blindly to anyone but to a person who seem to have the luck that day."

And Mike from Australia puts in a sensible word: "Why do people criticize decisions so much despite knowing the fact that the decision is a gamble. You guys understand gamble. Gambles can turn out to be flops and masterstrokes. Please do not say "Oh! Horrible captaincy. Rubbish decision"."

Venkataraghavan from India isn't too thrilled with the Bangalore XI chosen today: "I wonder what is Balachandra Akhil is doing in the bench! Is he bench so cold that someone of his calibre has to warm it up? people who follow domestic cricket know how useful is he at 7. And why has not Goswami been given a game despite his performances."

There's not too much batting to come for Bangalore, only Roelof van der Merwe.

Supraj from India finds a flaw in Shriram's theory: "Mr. Shriram, you seem to have forgotten the Deccan Chargers v Rajasthan Royals game in IPL 2008 when Symonds had a more than decent outing with the bat, and VVS Laxman, following your theory, handed him the ball for the last over of the Rajasthan innings. Mumbai renew their hopes of a semi-final spot with that 16-run win victory. Again their openers, Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya, flopped but Ajinkya Rahane finally came good in the IPL, and JP Duminy continued to clock up composed half-centuries. Still, 157 seemed no more than a competitive total.

Bangalore tried out a new combination at the top of the order, but they still couldn't get things right. The top-order, as they have so often, made a hash of things, and Rahul Dravid's run-out in the tenth over was a big turning point. With this defeat, Bangalore's slim chances of making the final four become slimmer yet.

Post-match presentation: Kumble: Probably Rahul's run-out was crucial. It was still a good wicket to get 9 or 10 runs an over at the end, but we lost too many wickets early.

Tendulkar: We needed this victory, I thought Rahane and Duminy batted well till the end. I thought we played well all round, batting was good, bowling was good, fielding was good. We need exactly what are the aspects to focus on (to make the semi-finals).

The Man of the Match is JP Duminy. "I thought our total was very challenging. We might have liked something around 160-170, but in the end, we won. That's all that matters."

That's it from me Siddarth Ravindran, do join us for our coverage of the Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders in Johannesburg.
