Indian Premier League - 48th match

Deccan Chargers v Kolkata Knight Riders

Deccan Chargers won by 6 wickets (with 0 balls remaining)

Just moments from the start. McCullum and Ganguly will open. A sizable crowd at the Wanderers. Harris will bowl, we haven't seen him for a bit.

Kolkata: Brendon McCullum(capt), Saurav Ganguly, Brad Hodge, David Hussey, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Yashpal Singh, Ajit Agarkar, Mashrafe Mortaza, Murali Kartik, Ishant Sharma, Shoaib Shaikh.

Deccan: Adam Gilchrist(capt and wk), Herschelle Gibbs, Tirumalsetti Suman, Rohit Sharma, Andrew Symonds, Dwaraka Ravi Teja, Venugopal Rao, Ryan Harris, Harmeet Singh, Rudra Pratap Singh, Pragyan Ojha

Time for the toss. Deccan have won and opted to bowl. Three changes. Gibbs, Harmeet Singh and Ryan Harris are back. Big news folks, Mashrafe Mortaza comes in for Kolkata. All the Bangla fans can take a breather now. He'll finally be made to work for his US$600,000.

We are yet to know who these guys have replaced. I'm suspecting Chaminda Vaas and Dwayne Smith are out for Deccan. Angelo Mathews may have been given the boot after that horrendous performance against Bangalore. We'll let you know in a bit if that indeed is the case.

Ajantha Mendis goes out, and in comes Brad Hodge for Kolkata. Shoaib Sheikh makes his IPL debut. No Vaas or Smith for Deccan, so we are right on that count. Harmeet has come in for Shoaib Maqsusi.

The pitch looks a pretty good one for batting. A dry, flat surface, just a few cracks on it. Ominous signs for the bowlers, the experts believe.

A chance for Deccan Chargers to go third on the points table as they take on Kolkata Knight Riders in Johannesburg. Kolkata are out but in their three remaining games, they do have the opportunity to wreck some hopes of reaching the semis. Still a while left for the toss, so do read the preview in the meantime.

4.3

Harris to McCullum, OUT, gives it away this time, survived a couple of scares but fails to take advantage, short on the off, usually plays the pull well but not quite so this time, got the top edge and Suman at square leg ran back a few steps to pouch a well-judged catch

BB McCullum c Suman b Harris 20 (18b 1x4 1x6) SR: 111.11

Khurram: "I disagree that Gillie choose to bowl first to give his players a bit of rest. The only thing in his mind right now must be to win matches to seal semi final berth.Only after that they can afford some relaxation. 9.3

Ojha to Ganguly, no run, struck right in the zone, came down the track to swing it away over midwicket, it spun in and bang!! He's in a bit of pain there, who wouldn't? Didn't look pleasant on the replay. Moral victory for Ojha there

9.5

Ojha to Hodge, no run, spun away sharply, beaten, got on the back foot to defend but was done in by the spin

Slow going for Kolkata, though they've lost just one wicket. McCullum threw away his wicket after a couple of scares, and Ganguly was involved in a controversial appeal for obstructing the field. Replays did suggest that the Deccan fielders, who went up, had a very valid point.

Symonds to Hussey, SIX, feeding them with length balls here, full and wide, makes room and carts it over deep cover for the biggest of his four sixes

19.4

Symonds to Hussey, OUT, run out, tries to whip it fine, gets hit on the waist and it drops on the pitch, rushes off for a single but Gilchrist is onto it quickly, flicking it onto the stumps at the non-striker's end to find Hussey well short

DJ Hussey run out 43 (17b 2x4 4x6) SR: 252.94

Mashrafe makes his first on-field appearance this tournament

19.5

Symonds to Mashrafe Mortaza, 2 runs, mistimes a slog wide of long-on, gets a couple for his efforts

19.6

Symonds to Mashrafe Mortaza, no run, fails to make contact, bowled on a good length on middle, looks to heave it away, misses

Kolkata have come back superbly after a slow start to finish with a competitive score. They owe it largely to Hussey and Hodge who overcame a lull in the scoring in the middle of the innings, and Deccan now have a stiff task to pull this one back and keep themselves in strong contention for a semi-final spot. Join us in a bit for the run-chase. I have an eerie feeling this is again going to be one of those close ones. We've had a few of them of late.

End of over 20 (14 runs) Kolkata Knight Riders 160/5
Mashrafe Mortaza    2* (2b)      A Symonds    4-0-28-1
AB Agarkar    0* (0b)      Harmeet Singh    3.5-0-40-0
