Indian Premier League - 52nd match

Royal Challengers Bangalore v Delhi Daredevils

Royal Challengers Bangalore won by 7 wickets (with 6 balls remaining)

16.30 local Bangalore are on the field. Looks a decent gathering in the stands. Sehwag and Gambhir walk out to cheer. Kumble, shades on, looks grim. Good batting track. Striking early is imperative for Bangalore. Praveen has the new ball and will start from the Golf Course End. One slip in place. Lets play ball!

16.10 local Right so we have the third change for Delhi, its Daniel Vettori. Manish Pandey is in for Bangalore.

Things are desperate for Bangalore, currently sixth with 12 points and a negative net run-rate. They have to win their last two games. A win will take them level with Deccan and Punjab. A defeat will not knock them out entirely but it will leave them needing to win their last match against Deccan and hoping that at least one of Punjab or Rajasthan lose their last games. Then it will come down to net run-rates. If Bangalore win both their matches, their semi-final berth is secure.

16.00 local Conditions look good. The weather has stayed decent till now so lets hope it remains so. The captains are down in the middle. Sehwag flips and wins and immediately says Delhi will bat. A good batting track and there's no pressure on Delhi so why not bat? Delhi have made a few changes. Dirk Nannes, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Amit Mishra have been rested. Andrew McDonald and Yogesh Nagar are confirmed, but Sehwag didn't mention the third replacement. Much fun. Kumble didn't mention any changes for Bangalore. Hang on and let me see what I can found out.

Kumar to Gambhir, 1 run, starts off back of a length outside off stump and Gambhir pokes at it, safely getting the ball down into the gap between slip and backward point for a single

0.2

Kumar to Sehwag, no run, good ball, short of a length on middle and leg, straightens, Sehwag gets in line and pushes the ball back to Praveen's right side and he does the fielding

So much for Sehwag's talk about finding form before the semis. Massive jolt for Delhi. Here's Manhas.

0.3

Kumar to Sehwag, OUT, gone! Praveen gets Sehwag with an ordinary ball, its short of a length and slanting down leg stump but Sehwag just turns it off his pads to Taylor at square leg

V Sehwag c Taylor b Kumar 0 (2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

0.4

Kumar to Manhas, no run, fuller in length outside off stump, searches for swing, Manhas comes onto the front foot and pushes the ball solidly to cover

0.5

Kumar to Manhas, OUT, another one down! Praveen's on a roll, this time bending his back and dragging the ball in short to suck Manhas into the pull shot, except he's nowhere in line to play that and gets a tame top edge that pops up the other way and Kallis, from second slip, dives forward to pluck the ball

M Manhas c Kallis b Kumar 0 (2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

In comes AB de Villiers in the first over. Amazing. PK is rocking it. Slow track this.

0.6

Kumar to de Villiers, no run, fuller length and some seam movement, AB hurries to defend

Amazing over. One run and two wickets. Advantage Bangalore. PK take a bow.

2.4

Kumar to Gambhir, no run, there's the gentle offcutter, pitching outside and beating Gambhir

B Akhil gets the ball. Gentle military-medium stuff. Boucher stands up to the stumps.

4.1

Akhil to Gambhir, FOUR, starts off too short and Gambhir punches it easily into the gap at cover

4.2

Akhil to Gambhir, FOUR, fuller ball, Gambhir starts to push forward but then waits and ever so fluently guides the ball at the last second wide of the man at a wide slip, thats all class

Kallis to de Villiers, FOUR, pitched up this time and he uses his feet nicely, just bringing the bat down in time to punch the ball past a diving mid-on for four, thats a good shot

5.3

Kallis to de Villiers, 1 run, shorter ball, too straight, AB knows fine leg is up and shuffles to brush the away but Praveen from square leg dives and saves three for his team

5.4

Kallis to Gambhir, 1 run, length ball outside leg stump, tucked off the pads for an easy single

5.5

Kallis to de Villiers, 1 run, fuller, slower, hint of movement, AB is already into the cover drive and hits it hard toward Akhil, who collects and returns a poor throw else the batsman was a goner

5.6

Kallis to Gambhir, OUT, bad ball, bad shot! Kallis bowls it short and wide, a real half-tracker, Gambhir needlessly decides to try and jump up and uppercut it but makes horrible timing and slaps the ball straight to Taylor at cover-point, who takes his second catch of the day

G Gambhir c Taylor b Kallis 27 (19b 3x4 1x6) SR: 142.10

7.6

Kallis to Karthik, 1 run, good ball, on a length, cramping Karthik, who uses soft hands to tap the ball in front of slip before running across for another smart single

Thats the end of Kallis. He's been very economical today. Done his job with the new ball.

Kumar to Vettori, 3 runs, and thats dropped at third man! Easy catch goes down! Praveen keeps it short and it angles into Vettori as he makes room and uppercuts it down to Uthappa, who runs in and has plenty of time to take it but the ball slips out, the batsmen get a third and Praveen kicks the ground in disgust

Kumar to Maharoof, 2 runs, fuller outside off stump, slogged loosely over mid-on, runs hard for two

19.6

Kumar to Maharoof, 2 runs, full on the stumps, Maharoof drives it down to long-on and charges off, the return throw is astray so he and Vettori can get back for the second

Good job done by Bangalore after having to field. Their target is 135. Praveen took two in the first over. Delhi's big names didn't click. Kallis was excellent. Kumble and Roelof were good. Slow track, sluggish. I won't say an easy enough chase because we've seen some small targets come apart. Delhi have a good attack but there's no Nannes this evening. That said, there is Vettori. Stick around for Bangalore's reply shortly.

End of over 20 (12 runs) Delhi Daredevils 134/7
MF Maharoof    18* (13b)      P Kumar    4-0-30-3
DL Vettori    4* (2b)      RE van der Merwe    4-0-31-1
