Indian Premier League - 44th match

Delhi Daredevils v Kings XI Punjab

Kings XI Punjab won by 7 wickets (with 8 balls remaining)

Warner and Sehwag have walked out to bat, Sangakkara has given the offspinner, Ramesh Powar, the ball. It's a hot hot day in Delhi.

3.45 pm: "That's game, set and match to Delhi," says Anubhav. "The toss has generally decided the outcome at Kotla this year. The team batting first has won on all but one occasion when Hayden's blitz proved too much for DD." He has a point, and Punjab's batting line-up isn't deep. Much will depend on whether they manage to restrict Delhi.

"Oh not again! Another Brett Lee injury. This time a thumb injury for him? Well, as an Aussie I wonder why Lee kept his Aussie contract for the coming season if he keeps getting injured," says Josh. Lee's had a horror season, injuries plenty and four wicketless games.

Toss, 3.30 pm: Gautam Gambhir says Delhi should have never lost in Kolkata. Anyway spilt milk and all that ... Gambhir's won the toss and Delhi will bat.

The news is that Ashish Nehra is back in the Delhi side, replacing Pradeep Sangwan. Mithun Manhas comes back for Kedar Jhadav.

Another injury for Brett Lee, he's fractured his thumb. So Punjab have brought back Juan Theron.

Check out the points table. Three teams are level on 12 points and three others on ten. If Delhi win today they'll move to 14 points with Mumbai, who are playing Rajasthan later this evening. Punjab have six points and could go up to eight.

3.20 pm: Welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of Sunday's double header. The first game is at the Feroz Shah Kotla between Delhi Daredevils and a team that could dash a few semi-final hopes if they raise their game - Kings XI Punjab. I'm George Binoy, your commentator for game one.

Pathan to Gambhir, FOUR, he's hit that! Pathan swings the ball away from the left-hander and gives Gambhir too much width, he cuts fiercely through point

1.3

Pathan to Gambhir, FOUR, more swing but once again the line is too wide, and the length a bit too full, Gambhir waits and drives through cover

1.4

Pathan to Gambhir, no run, straighter line and better length, Gambhir moves across and dabs on the off side, the infield is packed

1.5

Pathan to Gambhir, FOUR, superb, the off-side field is strong so Gambhir moves his front foot across, bends low, takes the ball on the full and paddles it to the fine leg boundary

1.6

He cuts the ball to short third man, Warner calls him for a single, Gambhir responds and then Warner sends him back. This pitch has kept low, been slow and turned big. Run-scoring has been hard. But Delhi threw away two out of the four wickets lost through silly running. Maybe 140-150 will be a defendable total on this pitch but they have a lot to do to get there.

"If there's any player I'd want coming in at 55/4 its Dan Vettori. He's used to coming in at similar scores given the way the NZ top order crumbles," says Gareth.

So Delhi didn't manage a six in their entire innings, falling for 111 after choosing to bat. Their total was inflated by 18 extras as well.

"I'm sure the DDCA will still insist that it's the best T20 wicket in the whole world," says Karthik.

The Kotla pitch has been pretty hard for Twenty20 batting. It's been slow, kept low and there's sizeable turn for the spinners. It was just tough to bat on, the ball wasn't coming on and run-scoring needed patience and a quick assessment of what a good total would be. It'd have been interesting to see Dravid or Tendulkar on this surface. Delhi, however, threw away the wickets of Gambhir and Warner through terrible running and it's cost them.

"Ramesh Powar bowled 17 dot balls today. Has anyone bowled more dot balls than him in IPL history?" asks Saurabh. Anyone have the answer?

Lokesh does. "Hey, I am a 14 year old fan of the Chargers.Ravichandran Ashwin bowled 18 dots yesterday against the Deccan Chargers."
