Indian Premier League - 56th match

Kolkata Knight Riders v Mumbai Indians

Kolkata Knight Riders won by 9 wickets (with 15 balls remaining)

Ok, back to events on the field, though this match matters little even in that regard. Shane Bond has the ball, Aditya Tare will take strike. Off we go.

Mumbai have decided to bat first. That rules out Kolkata mathematically as well, and we have a large enough crowd. The IPL has made its way into discussions in the Indian parliament; Last night, Shashi Tharoor resigned from his post as Minister of State for External Affairs over the Kochi deal, and Pranab Mukherjee, India's Finance Minister, has said that "all aspects of the IPL will be looked into." This, after Income Tax officials made a visit to the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, raising suspicions over funding and other financial matters. So while we have these games, there is much more brewing off the field.

Wriddhiman Saha and David Hussey have been called in for Kolkata, Laxmi Shukla and Chris Gayle have been left out because of injury issues. Several changes for Mumbai: Shikhar Dhawan for Sachin Tendulkar, Dwayne Bravo for Kieron Pollard, R Sathish for Abhishek Nayar, Ali Murtaza for Harbhajan Singh and Stuart Binny for Zaheer Khan. Bravo is the captain for Mumbai.

Hello and welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of the final league game of this action-packed - off the field as well with everything that's been happening of late - IPL. Today's game is more or less a dead rubber, but mathematically Kolkata still stand a chance. They will have beat Mumbai by a margin of around 175-odd runs to qualify for the final four. There is some time left before the toss, so check out the preview in the meantime.

Alternatively, they can let Mumbai score 1000 runs and finish the game off in 5 overs. There is still hope for Dada!"

Sac: "Sherul, I, on the contrary, thought that this is a good opportunity for MI to analyze. The 5 players not playing today are anyhow performing nicely; that gives them a broader spectrum to choose only 6 from 11 playing today based on the performance.
