Indian Premier League - 1st semi final

Royal Challengers Bangalore v Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians won by 35 runs

We are back. And Dravid is opening with Kallis. Interesting move. Bravo fielding for Pollard, who seemed to have tweaked something during that manic hitting. Zaheer to bowl, Kallis to face

0.1

Khan to Kallis, no run, short, angling across, left alone

Only one wide slip in place

0.2

Khan to Kallis, 1 run, short, cut away, gets a single to third man

0.3

Khan to Dravid, no run, beaten on the cut, extra bounce, Zaheer gives Dravid the look

0.4

Khan to Dravid, FOUR, edged, he just threw everything at it, and there was no way this edge was going to hand, flies long way over slip

0.5

Khan to Dravid, no run, closer to the stumps, no room to swing the arms, and hit back to the bowler

0.6

Khan to Dravid, FOUR, ordinary delivery, down the leg side, and clipped away past deep fine leg. lovely timing

End of over 1 (9 runs) Royal Challengers Bangalore 9/0 (176 runs required from 19 overs, RR: 9.00, RRR: 9.26)
R Dravid    8* (4b 2x4)      Z Khan    1-0-9-0
JH Kallis    1* (2b)

Fernando gets the new ball ahead of Malinga. Beware the split-finger slower one

1.1

Fernando to Kallis, 2 runs, short and wide, Kallis cuts it over the infield, looks only for elevation and not timing. Duminy gives good chase and keeps them down to two

1.2

Fernando to Kallis, FOUR, dropped at deep fine leg by Dhawan, Kallis looks to full, this is not short enough, and a thick top edge seems to fly straight down Dhawan's throat, but at the last moment he is not under it and lets it burst through as he dives

1.3

Fernando to Kallis, no run, back of a length, tucks him up, into the rubs, defended

1.4

Fernando to Kallis, FOUR, this pull is more controlled, this time he rocks back early and pulls it in front of square. Not the best of connection, but clears the infield, and Nayar puts in a desperate dive but can't save four

1.5

Fernando to Kallis, no run, fuller, no room, short of driving length, and defended

1.6

Fernando to Kallis, no run, full, half-volley even, hit straight back at Fernando

2.1

Malinga to Dravid, no run, gets a leading edge on a length ball on off and middle, goes along the ground towards cover

2.2

Malinga to Dravid, FOUR, another outside edge for four, stretches to play at this one, and the outside edge goes along the ground and wide of slip

2.3

Malinga to Dravid, 1 run, short and wide, cut away powerfully to third man for one

2.4

Malinga to Kallis, OUT, lovely bowling, outswinger, back of a length outside off, Kallis follows and edges. Malinga is pumped up. Out comes KP, Kevin Pietersen

JH Kallis c †Rayudu b Malinga 11 (9b 2x4 0x6) SR: 122.22

2.5

Malinga to Pietersen, no run, good bowling, more of a legcutter than an outswinger, back of a length, just outside off, moving away, KP withdraws from the shot after he has poked at it

2.6

Malinga to Pietersen, no run, another beautiful legcutter, came length, but straighter, off and middle, holding its line, beats his drive across the line, which makes the delivery look even better

End of over 3 (5 runs) Royal Challengers Bangalore 24/1 (161 runs required from 17 overs, RR: 8.00, RRR: 9.47)
KP Pietersen    0* (2b)      SL Malinga    1-0-5-1

Zaheer comes back. Change of ends

3.1

Khan to Dravid, no run, edged! Tendulkar is deep at first slip. Tendulkar dives forward, claims the catch, Dravid doesn't believe him, stands his ground. Tendulkar's finger is bleeding. Third umpire takes him time. Tendulkar gets his fingers under it, but while he catches it, part of the ball touches the ground. Can't give it. It's called not-out, the Mumbai crowd boos. Tendulkar is off the ground

3.2

Khan to Dravid, 1 run, looks to cut, doesn't make good connection, takes a single to point

3.3

Khan to Pietersen, FOUR, shuffles across, gets inside the line, converts a middle-and-leg delivery into a wide one down the leg side, and glances it fine for four

4.4

Malinga to Pietersen, FOUR, short and wide, and KP jumps into it, cutting it in front of square, but smack through the gap

4.5

Malinga to Pietersen, 3 runs, clumsy work by Zaheer. Lovely drive on a near-yorker from Pietersen, between mid-off and extra cover. Zaheer gives the chase, doesn't know when to dive, doesn't dive at all, tumbles as he looks to field, and ends up giving one extra run

4.6

Malinga to Dravid, no run, fast, short of driving length, on off stump, can't do much with it

End of over 5 (10 runs) Royal Challengers Bangalore 41/1 (144 runs required from 15 overs, RR: 8.20, RRR: 9.60)

Harbhajan to bowl now. Round the wicket

6.1

Harbhajan Singh to Pietersen, 2 runs, worked away off the pads, square of deep fine leg, and they come back for two

6.2

Harbhajan Singh to Pietersen, 1 wide, OUT, and he has him stumped! Sees his coming down, bowls it down the leg side, it turns across him, and even though Rayudu doesn't make a clean collection, KP is too far down the pitch to make it back in time. He dives back, but in vain. Mumbai crowd goes wild. It's actually good work from Rayudu who is so far down the leg side he has to dive to flick the bails off

KP Pietersen st †Rayudu b Harbhajan Singh 19 (14b 2x4 0x6) SR: 135.71

goes over the wicket

RV Uthappa c Dhawan b Pollard 26 (13b 2x4 2x6) SR: 200.00

9.4

Pollard to Dravid, OUT, Dravid sacrifices his wicket for Taylor! Presentation
Kieron Pollard is the MoM Says he: "Thanks to the team and the management for sticking with me. I know my role was to go in and up the run-rate, I hink I did that, and then take a couple of wickets. Me and Bravo were 160, and we thought if I got a couple of overs, we could get 180. After running the first two runs, I twinged my knee, but it feels good now, and hopefully I should be fit for the final."

Sachin Tendulkar "Fantastic performance. Rayudu and Saurabh's performance was great, mental strength, shot selection, everything. And then final burst from Pollard, exceptional. And then we bowled really well. He [Pollard] is getting bigger and bigger, and his hits are getting farther and farther. Hand is not too great, split my webbing, got five stitches, and hopefully I recover by the final."

Anil Kumble "Those last five overs we gave away too many runs. Even my last over. Having said that, Mumbai played really well. Always tough, chasing probably 25 runs extra. Having said that, we were doing well in the chase, but those two wickets in two balls hampered us."

Mumbai jubilant, Bangalore despondent. Handshakes all around. Till the 16th over of the first innings, Mumbai were in, and then Kumble bowled a no-ball, and Mumbai just took the game up to another level and proved to be too good. Pollard was all over Bangalore after that. Rayudu, Tiwary, Pollard, and then those two yorker kings, Malinga and Zaheer. Mumbai had two words tonight. Too good.
