Indian Premier League - Final

Chennai Super Kings v Mumbai Indians

Chennai Super Kings won by 22 runs

8.28pm The game should start anytime now. The players have made their way out. Hayden and Vijay are the openers. Harbhajan has the ball.

8.06pm Time for the toss. Tendulkar: "I've decided to play, fantastic atmosphere. We are excited to be here, the moment has come and hope we have a good day. The wicket looks fantastic, and the team has played well so far."

Dhoni: "It's a big occasion. It will be an exciting game. We are more used to playing in a knockout situation."

They'll be tossing the coin now. Dhoni has won the toss and decided to bat. "Cricket will be the ultimate winner," he says. The curators have taken a bit of grass off but Dhoni believes the conditions might assist the seamers early on. Chennai are unchanged. So are Mumbai. Look out for the XIs above in a bit.

8.00pm Back to the game. Sachin Tendulkar is fit and he's playing. Big cheers. Chants of Sachin, Sachin reverberating across the ground.

7.50pm We just heard another rendition of Rahman's Vande Mataram. Not sure if the ceremony's ended.

7.40pm In the meantime, Shahid Kapur has made his way out in the middle. And now there's a rendition of Rahman's Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire.

Lest we forget, the IPL is undergoing a crisis at this point, and there's the all-important governing council meeting to be held tomorrow. Click here for the full coverage of the mess.

7.28pm Now, there's Bipasha Basu doing the rounds in a hovercraft. She's made her way onto the stage, and performing to the title song of Race.

7.20pm Before we get to that, the closing ceremony has begun. Psychedelic Pink Floyd-like sounds with accompanying laser lights to kick things off. A rather lengthy introduction, this. Now, some fireworks. A drum-beating legion walks out of the pavilion. We're being treated to AR Rahman's Chale Chalo from Lagaan. Rahman's in a jeep doing the rounds across the ground with a microphone. The camera pans to the lovely Sushmita Sen in one of the VIP enclosures.

There is still uncertainty surrounding Sachin Tendulkar's availability for the game, after he hurt his finger in the semi-finals.

7.15pm IST Hello and welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of the IPL final. The game doesn't start anytime soon, however. We'll be having a closing ceremony first: quite a few Bollywood stars, Lata Mangeshkar and AR Rahman will be performing. There's some time left even before that gets underway, so do read the preview in the meantime.

Malinga to Anirudha, 5 wides, and that spoils it, Anirudha moved well across and Malinga bowled it wider, the batsman didn't get a touch and Rayudu had moved well towards the leg side, couldn't collect it, and went to the boundary, five wides that

19.5

Malinga to Anirudha, FOUR, length ball outside off, makes room and smotes it over mid-off for a boundary, cleanly struck

19.6

Malinga to Anirudha, 2 runs, yorker, manages to dig it out in the leg side wide of midwicket, steals a quick single and then races through for the second, Malinga fails to collect at the bowler's end allowing them to complete the second run

Chennai have posted a challenging score here, after it appeared at the end of the 12th over that they would not get this far. Dhoni kicked things off, Raina consolidated and Mumbai, in conditions that do they have their share of assistance for bowlers, have a tough task. Two missed chances helped Raina accelerate at the death, and Mumbai would want to ensure they don't make the difference in the outcome. Join us in a bit for the chase.

SK Raina    57* (35b 3x4 3x6)      Harbhajan Singh    4-0-30-0
