Virender Sehwag has been named captain of the Rest of India squad that will take on Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai in the Irani Cup match to be played from February 6 to 10 at the Wankhede Stadium. Sreesanth, who picked up 10 wickets from four matches in the Ranji Trophy, and Harbhajan Singh, who took 16 wickets from five matches, were also in the squad.

The team included Manoj Tiway, who recovered from a side strain, and openers Shikhar Dhawan and M Vijay, who were named ahead of Jiwanjot Singh, the leading run-scorer this Ranji season.

NICE to see the SELECTORS spreading their wings. This way we can get to see the star players of future and prepares an even bigger pool.

Once again these selection shows the incompetence and flaws of our selection system the reason why there is never the best indian team on the field....on what basis are Mukund,Vijay,Gony,Vinaykumar,Ladda Selected....Why is there no place for any player from the Services team especially there fast bowling attack is one of the best in indian domestic system right now also why is sandeep sharma, S.kaul , R.Dhawan not been played. S.Nadeem has been the leading spinner in Ranji season but still there is no place for him in any of the teams.

The indian selectors should really be ashamed this is just ridicolous. Still best of luck to Sree, Ahmed and Saxena all 3 of them should be in the indian test team if fit

@RijuRaj : but they should have been given a chance in India A against Aus...atleast Jaffer should have been tested for the opener's slot...The guy averages more in the domestic circuit than anyone else and going by the form he has shown in recent time should be given another chance...its not as if we are having openers aplenty ready to face the Aussies pace attack

The selectors look pretty confused! They probably thought, 'hence we have surplus of talent (!) lets fix them all in 3 teams'. It would have been a much better choice if the best of the lot were picked and made to play against the Aussies, whereas the ROI team should feature only the test team + reserve players for the test team. I feel sad for Badrinath. He deserves one more chance in the test team and should have been in ROI. Some pre conceived notions are working in his case which is very unfortunate. Raina & Yuvraj should never play test cricket for India and hence they shouldn't be there in ROI. Some players (Uthappa, Mithun, Vijay, Gony & Menaria) are lucky to be there. Some (Pankaj Singh, Rishi Dhawan) are unlucky to miss out. I still feel Vinay Kumar deserves the place, as he missed T20 WC & England One day series due to injury. I hope the low profile Jalaj Saxena shines. He has been a consistent performer and his success would be the success of Ranj Trophy setup and system.

Someone explains why in the ROI squad you got 6 batsmen, 1 WK who are all certain to play and 7 bowlers of which 4 won't play? Crazy selection. It's good to see only 12 being selected for other two squads. The choice of personals is always debatable.

Abhishek Nayyar will be very good addition to India. A very good all rounder but very unlucky. I strongly believe Irfan Pathan + Abhishek Nayyar + R.Jadeja in team will help balance our ODI team to a great extent. We can go in with 3 specialist bowlers ( Shami + Bhuvneshwar + Spinner) who bowl their full quota. Pathan/Nayyar/Raina/Jadeja can bowl the rest 20 among-st themselves and all 3 are not just containing bowlers but chip in with useful wickets. Batting should be Rahane and Nayyar opening with Kohli/Dhoni/Yuvraj/Rohit or tiwary or Rayudu/Raina to follow

How can BPXI play against Australia on Feb 12 when they are playing a t20 against WI on 13th??? Will that mean Australia will be sending Test squad players (not part of T20) ahead of other players?

Good that Sehwag is the captain. It will give him one good chance to redeem. Also this will be last chance for Sreesanth and Bhajji to catch the selectors eye. Sehwag must play in the middle order at no.5 or 6 which helps him a lot. My best wishes are with Sree, Viru and Bhajji. Hope they get back to form and play for India.
