Gloucestershire brought Abergavenny-born wicketkeeper Cameron Herring over the Severn Bridge for second team action in 2011 and after two summers he had impressed enough to earn a two-year senior contract and made his first-class debut against Essex at Chelmsford in the opening match of the 2013 season. But he was always been considered the No. 2 keeper and found first XI chances limited behind Gareth Roderick.

Despite only getting three innings across the opening four games in 2013, where Herring made 80 runs, he was replaced by Roderick. But an injury to Roderick gave Herring another run at the start of the following season. This time he didn't take his chance and scored just 46 runs in six innings. Another Roderick injury later in the season gave Herring another opportunity but he broke a finger warming up for a Championship match against Glamorgan at Bristol and when fit again was back in the second XI.

He played in 11 First Class matches and four T20s, with a top score of 114 not out against Cardiff MCCU in 2014. He was released at the end of the 2015 season.
