European Championship Division One, 2008 / Commentary

European Championship Division One - 13th match

Ireland v Scotland

Ireland won by 7 wickets (with 19 balls remaining) (D/L method)

The game has been reduced to 36 overs per side, a good result considering conditions this morning, let's hope the rain stays away!

Ireland have won the toss and have put Scotland in to bat. One change for each team - Fourie replacing Kidd for the hosts and Haq coming in for Rodgers for Scotland. Join us in ten minutes when play is due to start

1.30 pm Good news in Clontarf! We are going to start at 2.15 pm. It will obviously be a reduced game but I'm not sure of the full details yet, I'll let you know when I hear something concrete. Keep hanging in there

12.50 pm Better news- the covers are coming off and it actually looks quite bright out there now- optimism is growing that we may manage to squeeze in a game today. Anyway, time for lunch, I'll keep you updated when we get any further news...

12.00 pm No better news from Dublin as a persistent mizzle has set in. Lunch will be taken at 1.00 pm with another inspection scheduled at 1.30 pm.

The latest time we can start is 3.32 pm - which would be twenty overs per side.

11.25 am Good news- well maybe I'm getting a little carried away but the rain has stopped. It is still very dark overhead but the Umpires are out having a look as we speak. I still doubt we'll see any action in the near future though.

The ground staff have sprung into life which can only be a good sign. You'll be the first to know of any developments- keep those fingers crossed and we may manage a game today...

10.45 am Well we should be underway now but the rain continues to fall and a start before lunch looks very unlikely. Should today be washed out, as looks very possible at this stage, Scotland will be champions by virtue of superior net run rate.

10.00 am Good morning and welcome to our live coverage of the Championship decider between Ireland and Scotland. Unfortunately it looks pretty bleak at the minute.

It has been raining heavily overnight, and although it has eased a little I doubt we'll get any play in the near future as the groundstaff will need a couple of hours to get the ground ready when the rain finally relents. More updates when I get them...
