Hillel Awaskar grew into a senior member of the Israel team, having represented them at six ICC Trophies since 1982. He captained the team in 1982 and again in 1997, although he enjoyed little success during either tenure.
A left-arm spinner and hard-hitting top-order batsman, he held the local league record for the highest score - 244 not out - scored for the Ashdod A side.
Awaskar held a degree in Business Administration, and was married with two daughters. He took to umpiring after retiring as a player. He passed away on November 29, 2014, after being struck by a ball during a game he was officiating in, in Ashdod.
