Born at Southampton on June 17, 1886, and died while serving as a Major with the Wiltshire Regiment near Basra, Mesopotamia, on February 22, 1917, aged 30. He played in the Sherborne XI from 1903 to 1905, taking 40 wickets in his last year and having a batting average of 30. At Merton College, Oxford, he played in the Freshmen's match of 1907 and the Seniors' matches of 1908 and 1909, but did not gain a blue. He played in 14 matches for Hampshire from 1907 to 1910. As a hard hitting batsman he scored 191 runs, highest 38, and took 21 wickets at 24.42 with his leg-breaks, with a best of 5 for 42.
