Chad Barrett made a century on Championship debut for Northamptonshire against Worcestershire in 2016, a startling contribution which ranked as the highest score ever made by a Northants No. 10. Barrett's unbeaten 114 surpassed 106 by Gus Williamson against Cambridge University in 1960.
His feat was all the more remarkable considering Barrett's career path. The South African's only other previous first-class experience came for Northants against the Sri Lankan tourists in 2014, a rare call to arms as he played 2nd XI cricket for Leicestershire, Middlesex and Somerset in an effort to gain another chance at first-class level.
