Bernard Harrison, an opening batsman, played for the army in both football and cricket before joining Hampshire, but struggled to command a place in a strong batting line-up. Six of his 14 county matches were against Oxford University, and both his fifties and his only first-class hundred also came against them. But he did play twice in Hampshire's Championship-winning season in 1961 and four times in 1962. He continued to appear infrequently for the 2nd XI, the last time in 1968. He also played football for Southampton, Portsmouth, Crystal Palace and Exeter City. A teacher by profession, Harrison's club cricket was with Basingstoke and North Hants Cricket Club, where he also coached.
