Bermuda: Cricket chief re-elected

Bermuda Cricket Board of Control (BCBC) president El James was recently returned as the governing body's chief for a fourth successive term. With several incoming and outgoing tours for the upcoming season, he will have his hands full.

2001 commitments include an incoming tour by the MCC in May, the ICC Trophy in Canada in June as well as a tour to the Cayman Islands by the Under-15s in July. In addition, the annual commitment to the Red Stripe Bowl in the West Indies and plans for a revitalized schools program, James' new national coach, Roland Butcher will have plenty to do.

There were only two changes to the BCBC executive with 1st Vice-President Randy Horton and Assistant Secretary, former national coach Allan Douglas, declining their positions. 2nd Vice-President Reginald Pearman was promoted and Ellsworth Christopher assumed his spot. Hoyt Zuill was elected as the new Assistant Secretary. Re-elected members, Charlotte Simons (Secretary) and Neil Speight (Treasurer) complete the executive team.

Mr. James expressed his gratitude to the affiliates for the confidence placed in him and the executive as they prepare to do all in their power to get Bermuda to the 2002 World Cup to be held in South Africa. It will be quite a challenge but with the appointment of former England international, Roland Butcher, they believe they have the man to fulfill the country's aspirations. Butcher assumed his responsibilities on March 1, 2001.
