Derek George Foster, who died at Chipping Campden on October 13, aged 73, was a bowler of considerable pace who played 52 matches for Warwickshire between 1928 and 1934, taking 141 wickets at 25.79. His best figures were 7 for 42 against Surrey at The Oval in 1930, and he did the hat-trick against Hampshire at Edgbaston in 1929. Four times he represented the Gentlemen against the Players. He later served on the Warwickshire committee. Six-feet-three and weighing 16-and-a-half stone in his playing days, Foster was also a useful big-hitting batsman, with a highest score of 70. He once recorded a throw of 133 yards. He was also accomplished at golf, swimming and judo.
