Brian Boobbyer was an opening batsman from Uppingham who, after a spell in the army, was a regular in the Oxford side between 1949 and 1952, his best season coming in his final year when he made 802 runs at 34.86, including the second of his two first-class hundreds which both came against Sussex. He won four Blues, and in 1951 his second-innings 80 was the highest score in a low-scoring game which Oxford won by 20 runs.

His greater fame, however, came as a rugby union centre, winning nine caps for England while at university. He quit sport at 24 to become a worker for the Moral Rearmament Movement (known as the Oxford Group) in the Far East.
