It wasn't an easy start to Tom Maynard's professional career for reasons both on and off the field. When he began at Glamorgan there was the pressure of carrying a family name steeped in Welsh cricket history and runs were hard to come by. But then things got ugly. His father, Matthew, left Glamorgan in bitter circumstances during the 2010 off season and Tom felt he could no longer remain at a club that treated his dad in such a manner. He made a move to Surrey - in itself a gamble given the county's problems - but made a promising start with a maiden first-class hundred, aptly against his former county at Cardiff.
