Tom Lewis attended the same school as Ian Bell - Princethorp College - and followed him into the Warwickshire and England youth teams. For Warwickshire he played in every team from U10 level while, for England, he played in the U16 side alongside the likes of Joe Root and Ben Stokes.

A top-order batsman, he spent three seasons with MCC Young Cricketers under the coaching of Mark Alleyne and went on various MCC tours to India and Australia. He also spent winters playing club cricket in Melbourne and New Zealand and did some coaching in Argentina.

His brother, Mark Lewis, also played for Warwickshire Second XI and, in his one first-class innings, made an unbeaten 74 for Oxford MCCU against Glamorgan in 2009.

He was signed by Warwickshire on a two-year deal ahead of the 2014 season but, despite an increasingly impressive campaign in the second XI (he hit two centuries in the last few weeks of the season), was unable to break into the first team. He was given an opportunity to prove his credentials as a T20 cricketer in 2015 but was released at the end of the season. George Dobell
