The players are out in the middle...here we go. Steven Finn with the first over
Phil Blackwood: "Unfortunately not showing the game on any of the 20 sports channels we have here at 50th Street Yangon, Myanmar so settling into a afternoon of reading! Glad to be joining you guys!" Glad to have you with us, Phil
6.55pm Kalpesh: "Never been a fan of short boundaries and if the boundaries are shorter than normal it's just bad for the game. Takes the bowlers completely out of the game and all it becomes is a muscle game, team which muscles more wins the game." Well, I think this series has shown (by England in Auckland and NZ in Hamilton) that smart, clever bowling still succeeds even with shorter boundaries.
Andrew: "Excuse me, but what on earth is the point of playing Joe Root if he's batting at 7?" Does he lose much in comparison with Samit? Interesting debate.
6.50pm Good crowd building up. Expecting about 20,000 which should create a great atmosphere in the Cake Tin.
Michael: "Lovely weather in Wellington tonight - despite being the windiest city in the world the breeze is gentle and cooling tonight. Heading down to the Stadium now."
6.35pm Time for the toss...England have won and will bowl, Stuart Broad citing the statistics which say chasing is the way to go on this ground despite admitting a mistake in the previous match. Joe Root has been brought in for Samit Patel.
Brendon McCullum says he, too, would have bowled first. "Hopefully we can continue in the trend we did the other night." He confirms an unchanged for New Zealand and says the boundaries are shorter than normal at the ground.
New Zealand 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Hamish Rutherford, 3 Brendon McCullum (capt & wk), 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Colin Munro, 6 Grant Elliott, 7 James Franklin, 8 Nathan McCullum, 9 Ian Butler, 10 Trent Boult, 11 Mitchell McClenaghan
England 1 Michael Lumb, 2 Alex Hales, 3 Luke Wright, 4 Jonny Bairstow, 5 Eoin Morgan, 6 Jos Buttler (wk), 7 Joe Root, 8 Stuart Broad (capt), 9 James Tredwell, 10 Steven Finn, 11 Jade Dernbach
6.30pm Alistair: "Just back from holiday in Morroco freezing cold in my bed here in Scotland waiting for cricket to start come on England warm me up!"
6.20pm Hello and welcome to coverage of the deciding Twenty20 between New Zealand and England from Wellington. I'm Andrew McGlashan and will be bringing you all the action. It looks a lovely evening in Wellington. We are just a few moments away from the toss and I'll bring you the news as soon as I have it. Can New Zealand continue the comeback theme?

flayed through the off side again, this time by Guptill, but it's not quite so cleanly struck which gives Broad the chase to get round from mid-off
|
5.4 |
Dernbach to BB McCullum,
2 runs,
lovely piece of timing, driving square and beats backward point but it doesn't quite have enough to reach the boundary as third man, Joe Root, makes excellent ground around the boundary

Finn to Guptill,
1 run,
gets lucky (or not depending on your point of view) as he aims a swipe across the line and the top edge falls between Buttler running back and third man coming in
|
That ends a quality four overs from Finn. Looked in good rhythm tonight

|
17.1 |
Dernbach to Guptill,
FOUR,
greeted by another first-ball boundary, floated up outside off and it's slammed through the off side to beat long-off
|
17.2 |
Dernbach to Guptill,
2 runs,
full again, this time he goes leg side through midwicket and wide of long-on
|
17.3 |
Dernbach to Guptill,
1 run,
excellent slower ball, Guptill can only drop it by his feet by they get through for the single that takes him to fifty...Dernbach kicked the ball into the stumps again from his follow through. Good skills.
|
17.4 |
Dernbach to Franklin,
1 bye,
beats the batsman outside leg stump, goes through Franklin's legs to the keeper but they steal a bye as Buttler's throw is wide
|
17.5 |
Dernbach to Guptill,
SIX,
this one comes out of the middle, low full toss outside off and Guptill cracks it over deep midwicket. That will feel a bit better
|
17.6 |
Dernbach to Guptill,
1 run,
gets back on a length at the stumps, Guptill steps to leg and swings hard getting a thick edge to third man

Broad to Guptill,
1 run,
full on off stump, Guptill shuffles across and scoops (not in the Buttler sense) down to long-on
|
18.2 |
Broad to Franklin,
1 run,
dropped, a rare mistake in the catching from England. Franklin gave himself a touch of room and drilled it hard to mid-off, but Finn could not quite get down to a very low chance. Tough.
|
Steven Finn has left the field after that
|
18.3 |
Broad to Guptill,
1 run,
short ball, beats him for pace at 143kph, can only splice his pull into the leg side
|
18.4 |
Broad to Franklin,
1 bye,
another bye is taken after Franklin was beaten by a short ball...Buttler not winning any games of ten-pin bowling right now. Franklin wanted a wide, too
|
18.5 |
Broad to Guptill,
OUT,
short again, a wicket again. Guptill gets into a tangle as he tries to work this to leg and gets a top edge that Broad takes easily. Not a free-flowing innings, he never hit top gear. The value, or otherwise, will become clear a little later

another short ball, another fresh-air shot, another bye, another miss from Buttler behind the stumps

Mighty fine figures from Broad. Leading from the front today.

Dernbach to Franklin,
1 bye,
a slower short ball, back of the hand, beats Franklin and Buttler hurls wide of the timber again
|
19.2 |
Dernbach to NL McCullum,
OUT,
Buttler doesn't need to throw this one because there's an edge on it. McCullum moving to leg to try and get it through the off side but can only guide it into the gloves

|
19.3 |
Dernbach to Butler,
1 run,
heaved into the leg side from a good length, rather dribbles to deep midwicket
|
19.4 |
Dernbach to Franklin,
FOUR,
top shot, short of a length and Franklin goes straight over mid-off who is inside the circle
|
19.5 |
Dernbach to Franklin,
FOUR,
back-to-back boundaries, this one with a little more luck as he swings to leg and gets a edge just wide of a flying Buttler...wasn't a chance
|
19.6 |
Dernbach to Franklin,
OUT,
neat catch off the final ball, trying to go over the off side and can't get it further than cover moving back from the edge of the ring

That was a sharp display from England with the ball and in the field, led by the captain Stuart Broad and a fine spell from Steven Finn. Martin Guptill tried to hold New Zealand together but never had any great scoring rate to his innings. This is not as free-scoring a ground as the previous two, but New Zealand look short by 15-20 runs. We'll find out in a few moments.
JohnnyReb: "I can count on one hand the number of times NZ has hit with the middle of the bat. Broad and co. doing looking like Steyn and Morne."
