145.1 to Finn, got him, Finn caught driving! One shot too many from the Watford Wall, who mistimed a punch and picked out the man stationed at short extra-cover. Wagner looks a mighty relieved man after an expensive spell but he's broken a very handy 83-run stand. They check Wagner hadn't gone outside the return crease in his delivery stride but all was well 457/8

73.5 to Compton, and got him, Compton driving away from his body and slip takes it comfortably into his midriff! Martin breaks a 210-run stand with a full ball, little bit of spin and perhaps a tired shot from the batsman, he didn't really get to the pitch - after another impressive innings, Compton departs 236/2

106.2 to Bell, Bell on the charge, spotting a red rag somewhere in the ground, but it's Ahmedebad all over again and the attempted loft over the bowler's head swirls high out somewhere behind cover and mid-off, where Fulton makes good ground before taking an excellent catch! For Pragyan Ohja, read Bruce Martin, as Bell loses his head and his wicket in the same moment 302/4

112.6 to Root, tossed up, full and tempting and Martin gets another, Root nicking off! That was a pretty ugly shot, cross-batted and attempting to hitting the cover off a wide delivery that just spun and bounced a little, scraped the edge on its way through and Watling takes the catch throws the ball into the air as McCullum feels another bead of sweat evaporate from his brow 325/5

124.2 to Pietersen, oh, gone, Martin lands a knockout punch on KP! Or rather, Pietersen knocks himself out, dismissed in similar fashion to Bell, trying to stamp his authority on the situation and lofting the ball high towards mid-off, Fulton under it again. McCullum kept the field up, tempting the batsman to go over the top but Pietersen was slightly done in the flight and didn't get anywhere near the pitch 366/6

146.2 to Prior, and there's that selflessness again, reverse-sweeping and caught by a leaping Wagner at short third man. Could have hung around to get the hundred but Prior always wants to crack on, he got a top edge but didn't quite clear the man 465/9

146.5 to Panesar, edged and gone, Williamson picks up a second and wraps up the England innings! Panesar rather tamely pushed at one that straightened and was caught at slip, he gives Anderson at the other end a sheepish look and off the players go - England will be bowling after tea 465/10

6.2 to Fulton, gone, Anderson gets his man! Fulton swinging in the wind and taken at first slip! It was a back-of-a-length ball, just did a little bit off the deck and Fulton stood stock still in the crease and poked at it, really didn't need to be playing at that ball but Alastair Cook, the catcher, will be grateful that he did 6/1

38.2 to Brownlie, jagging back and hit in front, Rauf gives it! This is a cracking ball, seaming in and skewering the back leg in front of middle, hit on the flap though and Brownlie asks for the review ... Height is the key, Brownlie's not a big fella and although it struck above the knee roll, Hawk Eye reckons the ball would have grazed the bails so the decision stands and England have their fifth wicket! Both established batsmen nipped out and pandemonium has erupted from nowhere 89/5

69.5 to McCullum, edged off the back foot and gone, Trott takes this one and McCullum's resistance is over! Finn's extra bounce and McCullum's instinct to attack did for him there, played away from his body, could easily have left it but a thick edge flew straight to second slip. McCullum punches his bat and begins the long walk back 189/6

71.5 to Southee, oh, Tim, what have you done? Leg trap set and Southee hooks it straight to the man! Again that steepling bounce was the key, Southee was never in control of the shot, Broad had been positioned down at long leg and he had time to check his watch, run a comb through his hair and get his hands warm before it landed right in his lap 197/7

21.3 to Rutherford, flashes at a length ball pushed across him and edges, Rutherford's gone and he hasn't scored a hundred! A better length from Broad, having gone full and then short, this was in that either-or zone, didn't have to do much off the pitch as Rutherford was playing away from his body and he gets a thick deviation, again to Cook at first slip 48/2

21.4 to Taylor, bowled him, two in two! Clips the top of off and Taylor is gone for a golden duck! It was a lovely delivery to the new batsman, on a length, just gripping and holding its line to shiver the timber as Taylor pushed forward with sluggish feet and cold hands. Broad is grinning, well, broadly - maybe he was just teasing us all along? 48/3

37.5 to Williamson, sticks in the pitch, pushed back and gone, caught and bowled! Broad winkles out another one - and Williamson had looked so comfortable, too! Not quite sure what foxed the batsman, there, probably wasn't full enough to drive and he ended up patting it back, Broad had to react quickly but he snatched it to his left, eyes bulging, almost grinning in disbelief 85/4

83.3 to Watling, is that a feather through to the keeper? It is, Watling goes! He had a couple of lives but this time the chance is to Prior, who makes no mistake, a simple catch as a back-of-a-length ball climbs on Watling, he had to play at it and there's a visible brush of the edge to end a spirited innings. Fourth wicket for Broad, who's looking increasingly like his old self 239/8

87.4 to Wagner, got him this time, thin tickle and the tumbling Prior takes it! Too good for the tailender, though he probably could have left it, the length created doubt and Wagner couldn't resist - that's a welcome five-wicket haul for Broad, his first since Headingley last August 252/9

89.2 to Boult, but it doesn't matter, he's got him the very next ball, another diving catch from Prior to a thin bottom edge! Boult had tired of hopping around evasively and hacked across the line, just a faint nick down the leg side and Prior leaps to snag it - Broad has a six-for and England have the choice of whether to enforce the follow on 254/10

36.6 to Fulton, got him this time, edged and taken at first slip! But is it a no-ball? They check the replays and it's very tight... There's probably a scrap of trouser leg behind the line (maybe some boot rubber too) and the third umpire decides it's okay. Fulton has been dabbling unnecessarily outside off all over and this time he pays for it, similar to his first-innings dismissal, little foot movement and a straightforward slip catch at waist height 81/2

10.3 to Rutherford, and he immediately takes a brilliant diving catch, a perfect fielding change brings England the breakthrough! Rutherford stayed back and seemed powerless to direct anywhere else, scraped the edge and may have deflected off the thigh as well but it was still travelling and Bell had to throw himself low to his right to take a one-handed blinder, right up there in the Collingwood league 25/1
