Pakistan in New Zealand ODI Series - 1st ODI

New Zealand v Pakistan

New Zealand won by 9 wickets (with 196 balls remaining)

3.5

Southee to Younis Khan, 2 runs, full on off stump and Younis is away with a nicely timed steer past point. Back for a couple.

3.6

Southee to Younis Khan, no run, Southee keeps probing away, another subtle change in length. Fullish ball, looking for the dream outswinger from middle and leg. Younis had to arrest his forward lunge quickly to defend to the off side

Pakistan 9/1   Younis Khan 2* (2b)

4.5

Franklin to Younis Khan, no run, angles a full delivery across Younis at 126 kph and he drives solidly into the covers

4.6

Franklin to Younis Khan, 1 run, good running at the end of the day. Full delivery outside off, Younis moved into the drive and used the wrists to play it to the left of Guptill at point. It seemed like a tight run, but Younis made it before the throw come in.

Pakistan 11/1   Younis Khan 3* (4b)

5.1

Southee to Younis Khan, FOUR, Southee continues to do a decent fast bowler's impression of legspin. Another sharp away seamer, sucks Younis into the waft after getting forward, and gets the edge. Unfortunately for Southee, it was a thick edge that eluded the two slips

5.2

Southee to Younis Khan, 1 run, another one that moves away from off stump, Younis opens the face and guides square for one

Pakistan 16/1   Younis Khan 8* (6b 1x4)

6.1

Franklin to Younis Khan, no run, short of a length outside off, Younis pounces back in the crease and looks for the square cut, but finds Ryder at point

6.2

Franklin to Younis Khan, no run, mix-up, but safe. Length ball, on the stumps and holding its line, Younis looks to play to the leg side as he falls across, and is running even as he played it. Kamran was never interested, and rightly so. Franklin ran down to the right of the pitch on his follow through and attempted an under-arm flick towards the stumps, but missed, as Younis dived in.

6.3

Franklin to Younis Khan, no run, outside off this time, Younis unfurls a solid looking drive but finds cover

6.4

Franklin to Younis Khan, FOUR, boy, how close was that to short fine leg? Not a very smart delivery from Franklin, short ball without pace on leg stump and it was there for the pull. It came off so slowly that Younis mistimed the pull, and it went menacingly close to short fine leg before running away to the boundary

6.5

Franklin to Younis Khan, 1 run, reaches across with an angled face to pick up a single behind backward point

Pakistan 21/1   Younis Khan 13* (11b 2x4)

8.1

Oram to Younis Khan, no run, and begins with a gentle away swinger at 129 kph that forces the drive out of Younis. He misses though

8.2

Oram to Younis Khan, 1 run, back of a length this time, a foot outside off, Younis opens the face and steers square for one

Pakistan 27/2   Younis Khan 14* (13b 2x4)

9.1

Southee to Younis Khan, 1 run, good footwork from Younis, gets well forward and across to a full away seamer outside off and guides it off the face, square for a single

Pakistan 29/2   Younis Khan 15* (14b 2x4)

10.1

Oram to Younis Khan, no run, Oram darts one away from wide of off stump, Younis reaches across and leaves

10.2

Oram to Younis Khan, 1 run, this one holds its line, and Younis is alert to the variation as he gets across and defends to the off side. They take a quick single

Pakistan 30/3   Younis Khan 16* (16b 2x4)

11.1

Southee to Younis Khan, no run, Southee holds the length back and gets another one to straighten from outside off. Defended off the back foot square on the off side

11.2

Southee to Younis Khan, 1 wide, a rare delivery overcooked by Southee, wide down the leg side

11.2

Southee to Younis Khan, no run, back on track, full on middle and swerving away prodigiously, Younis does really well to defend that off the middle of the bat

11.3

Southee to Younis Khan, no run, play and a miss outside off, Younis had a feel at it as it moved away, but he did not get an edge.

11.4

Southee to Younis Khan, 1 run, nicely played and well fielded. Southee ekes the drive out of Younis with a good length ball, it is timed pretty well down the ground, and Vettori moves quickly to his right from mid off to tumble and stop.

Pakistan 32/3   Younis Khan 17* (20b 2x4)

12.1

Oram to Younis Khan, no run, movement and spongy bounce, both causing problems here. This one was back of a length outside off and Younis went for the cut, but it just did not come on. Inside edged into the body

12.2

Oram to Younis Khan, no run, fuller outside off, played with the full face towards mid off

12.3

Oram to Younis Khan, 1 wide, slips down the leg side for another wide

12.3

Oram to Younis Khan, 1 run, another offcutter of sorts from Oram, at 128 kph, Younis inside edge the cut to the right of the pitch and they hare across for a quick single. Oram runs across and kicks the ball at the stumps, but misses. Misbah was not dragging his bat in. Hmm.

Pakistan 34/3   Younis Khan 18* (23b 2x4)

13.1

Bennett to Younis Khan, no run, and he bowls a real heavy ball this man. 140 kph, hits the deck outside off and Younis goes for the cut. He misses. Interesting action, huge leap before release, almost a two-legged hop, that propels him a whole metre at least before banging it in. A distinct resemblance in style to Debashis Mohanty.

13.2

Bennett to Younis Khan, 1 run, closer to a length outside off and Younis gets it away square for one

Pakistan 37/3   Younis Khan 19* (25b 2x4)

14.2

Oram to Younis Khan, 1 wide, slips down the leg side and concedes a wide

14.2

Oram to Younis Khan, 1 leg bye, slow offcutter at 127 kph and a huge appeal for lbw from Oram. Younis was decieved by the change of pace, he was well forward and into the shot by the time the ball came on and struck him on the pad. Might have been sliding down the leg. Debatable call, ruled in the batsman's favour. Replays suggest it was going high, so good decision.

Pakistan 41/3   Younis Khan 19* (26b 2x4)

15.6

Bennett to Younis Khan, no run, opens the face and defends the final ball off the back foot to point

Pakistan 44/3   Younis Khan 19* (27b 2x4)

16.4

Oram to Younis Khan, 1 run, smart work from Younis, back of a length on off stump, he drops it softly to the leg side and takes a single

Pakistan 46/3   Younis Khan 20* (28b 2x4)

17.4

Bennett to Younis Khan, 1 wide, overcooks the bouncer and McCullum does some football goalkeeping, jumping up as he would if he was parrying it over the cross bar, and pouches it in one hand

17.4

Bennett to Younis Khan, no run, short of a length outside off, stays beside the line and plays it with angled face into the off side

17.5

Bennett to Younis Khan, 1 run, this one tails in from wide of the crease, Younis gets across and inside the line before nudging it square for the 50th run

Pakistan 50/3   Younis Khan 21* (30b 2x4)

18.1

Oram to Younis Khan, no run, bangs it in, more of that balloonish, indifferent bounce. It is left alone.

18.2

Oram to Younis Khan, 1 run, back of a length outside off, gently dabbed towards wide mid off for a single. That's what Pakistan want.

18.6

Oram to Younis Khan, 1 run, hmm, Oram moves the 19-overs-old ball away off the seam and Younis steers it uppishly through a now vacant gully region for one

Pakistan 55/3   Younis Khan 23* (33b 2x4)

19.1

Bennett to Younis Khan, 1 run, 132 kph, shortish ball coming into Younis, who quietly plays it towards mid on for one. He's beginning to get used to this pitch now

19.3

Bennett to Younis Khan, OUT, oh no, I seem to have put the commentator's curse on Younis. 136 kph, back of a length delivery, it seemed to hurry onto Younis who was late on a forcing shot off the back foot. It took a thin outside edge through to McCullum. He was probably better off defending it. Surely seemed like he misread the pace on that one.

Younis Khan c †BB McCullum b Bennett 24 (75m 35b 2x4 0x6) SR: 68.57

Pakistan 57/4   Younis Khan 24 (35b 2x4)
