Pakistan in New Zealand ODI Series - 1st ODI

New Zealand v Pakistan

New Zealand won by 9 wickets (with 196 balls remaining)

0.1

Franklin to Kamran Akmal, no run, length ball, on a good line, around off stump and slanting a touch in. Kamran defends solidly off the front foot

0.2

Franklin to Kamran Akmal, FOUR, and Kamran doesn't need much time to get used to New Zealand. Lovely piece of timing as Frankli lands this a foot and a half wide of off. Kamran opens the face as he eases into a square drive and finds the gap through a well populated circle on the off side

0.3

Franklin to Kamran Akmal, 1 run, similar ball, Kamran drives it on the up this time. Nathan McCullum at point tumbles to his left and keeps it down to one

0.4

Franklin to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, good delivery, angles into middle and off and nips into Hafeez at 128 kph. Hafeez is neither forward nor back, but keeps it out

0.5

Franklin to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, too straight, but Hafeez misses out as he looks to flick. Hits him on the pads, safely down the leg side

0.6

Franklin to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, well, well, what happened there? Full length ball on off stump, Hafeez pressed across to defend, but there was a small gap between bat and pad, it squeezed through it, possibly off the inside edge, but ballooned and died on McCullum who dived forward and could not scoop it in time. Was there an edge?

Pakistan 5/0   JEC Franklin 1-0-5-0

2.1

Franklin to Kamran Akmal, no run, not much movement at this end, full on off stump and Kamran defends compactly to the off side

2.2

Franklin to Kamran Akmal, no run, smart change in length, dangling the bait outside off and getting it to hold its line and go with the angle. Kamran has a feel at it, but doesn't nick it

2.3

Franklin to Kamran Akmal, no run, solid defence again, to a straighter ball. Positive footwork from Kamran, getting nicelt across to cover the line

2.4

Franklin to Kamran Akmal, no run, back of a length, on middle stump, Kamran stays back and defends down the track

2.5

Franklin to Kamran Akmal, no run, over-pitched, well outside off and Kamran goes for the drive, but he hasn't got across. Mis-times the shot to mid-off

2.6

Franklin to Kamran Akmal, no run, another good finish to the over, Franklin finally gets the ball to deviate, starts on off stump and begins to straighten, but not enough to hit the stumps. Rapped on the pads as Kamran was reaching out, but there is no appeal

Pakistan 7/0   JEC Franklin 2-1-5-0

4.1

Franklin to Kamran Akmal, no run, back of a length outside off, Kamran goes for the big booming cover drive, but it goes without much boom towards cover. Mistimed due to lack of footwork

4.2

Franklin to Kamran Akmal, no run, nice save at short fine leg, that ball had four bonus runs written on it, as it landed outside leg and Kamran timed the glance perfectly. The fielder at short fine moved quickly to his left and tumbled to save four runs.

4.3

Franklin to Kamran Akmal, no run, full and straight on off stump, Kamran eases the check drive towards mid off

4.4

Franklin to Kamran Akmal, 1 run, fractionally wider outside off and Kamran opens the face to guide it square for one

4.5

Franklin to Younis Khan, no run, angles a full delivery across Younis at 126 kph and he drives solidly into the covers

4.6

Franklin to Younis Khan, 1 run, good running at the end of the day. Full delivery outside off, Younis moved into the drive and used the wrists to play it to the left of Guptill at point. It seemed like a tight run, but Younis made it before the throw come in.

Pakistan 11/1   JEC Franklin 3-1-7-0

6.1

Franklin to Younis Khan, no run, short of a length outside off, Younis pounces back in the crease and looks for the square cut, but finds Ryder at point

6.2

Franklin to Younis Khan, no run, mix-up, but safe. Length ball, on the stumps and holding its line, Younis looks to play to the leg side as he falls across, and is running even as he played it. Kamran was never interested, and rightly so. Franklin ran down to the right of the pitch on his follow through and attempted an under-arm flick towards the stumps, but missed, as Younis dived in.

6.3

Franklin to Younis Khan, no run, outside off this time, Younis unfurls a solid looking drive but finds cover

6.4

Franklin to Younis Khan, FOUR, boy, how close was that to short fine leg? Not a very smart delivery from Franklin, short ball without pace on leg stump and it was there for the pull. It came off so slowly that Younis mistimed the pull, and it went menacingly close to short fine leg before running away to the boundary

6.5

Franklin to Younis Khan, 1 run, reaches across with an angled face to pick up a single behind backward point

6.6

Franklin to Kamran Akmal, 1 run, dropped back of a length on the pads and Kamran works it square for one
