The second ODI, in Napier, was abandoned without a ball being bowled, after heavy rain persisted until mid afternoon, and left the ground too sodden for play to begin. The skies had begun to clear well ahead of the game's cut-off time of 7:19 pm, but with the outfield having received more than 24 hours of persistent rain, umpires Billy Bowden and Bruce Oxenford decided not to risk player safety.

The game was called off just before 6:30pm. At that time, portions of the field still appeared waterlogged despite hours of drying with super soppers. Pakistan can now only draw the series at best, as the action moves to Auckland, for the final match of the tour, on Sunday.

@ KARGILBOY .... we are not being negative, just being realistic. a famous NFL coach said, you are how you play, you cant be a great team, and not perform on game day. When your team is pushing players like hafeez/shehzad/afridi/azhar in playing 11, and not letting new talent develop, you will have crappy showing, Your bowlers cant bowl with freedom, when you don't have enough on board to defend, What Hafeez/shehzad/afridi/malik are doing in so professional team, is beyond me.

@t20cric@walidnisar what I think of pak cricket is lack of good management .see pak u19 2006 defeat India u19 2006 WC which their seniors can't do and that was not ordinary team on that team of India there was rohit sharma pujara jadeja and others I thought anwar Ali who was swinging the balls miles at 17 what happens to him today.umar akmal and virat kohli both played same u19 WC respectively .critics even umar a new sensation better kohli and he was .but now look at him.talking of batting talent sami aslam a great talent in u19 level last time but what the management doing sitting him bench instead of promoting him what management doing denting his confidence

@Kargilboy: Thanks a lot for those encouraging comments but the negativity from the Pak fans isn't for no reason. Our bowling is decent but Wahab is more hype than wickets so it would be nice to have a an in form Junaid in the squad which would pressurize Wahab to perform consistently. When it comes to batting then we don't have any batsman that would make it to other national teams but Babar does look like a good prospect so if he scores another 50 score on Sunday then I'll be happy. Our captaincy in ODI is pathetic where we let NZ escape from 99/6 to score twice as many as they really should have. Even so called defensive captains like Misbah and MSD wouldn't let that happen. Despite all that I do agree that we have talent but leadership really needs to improve.

@kargilboy Thanks mate...But we should admit the fact that today NZ are a much much much better team than any Asian team...PAKISTAN lacks the batting , INDIA lacks the bowling , SL are inexperienced and BANGLADESH are just improving so I personally don't see Pakistan winning even the 3rd ODI...But thanks for your sincere comment bro and I hope from that our countries get peaceful ASAP so that we can see the old PAK VS IND magic...Salaam from PAKISTAN

Will pakistani players, especially mhomed amer, be allowed to play in the IPL this time?

  • FAROOQ on January 28, 2016, 9:03 GMT

Whenever I see comments complaining about ground sizes I know NZ is doing well coz its such a cop out excuse and suggests theres not much negative to say about the actual players themselves - people have such short memories about NZ performances outside of NZ (barring a couple of issues in Aus which had nothing to do with the 'big scary grounds') remind me again what the results were last time NZ played in the UAE???

Guys - hamza893 is most certainly a pakistani who stays in australia. He stays in australia and lives the good life but his heart is still in pakistan. So dont take his criticism seriously. If guys like him had their way, they would bring australian cricket (and everything else) to the level of pakistan.
