South Africa in New Zealand T20I Series - 2nd T20I

New Zealand v South Africa

South Africa won by 8 wickets (with 24 balls remaining)

Another sunny day greets us as New Zealand and South Africa converge at Seddon Park in Hamilton for the 2nd Twenty20 International. Welcome to our live coverage.

New Zealand outplayed the visitors on Friday night in Wellington, and the Hamilton crowd has turned out in droves, because New Zealand Cricket have announced that the ground is sold out.

South Africa have won the toss and have chosen to bowl first on a flat pitch full of runs, as evidenced by the New Zealand Women game against England a few hours ago. Wayne Parnell and Marchant de Lange come into the side for Colin Ingram and Rusty Theron, and New Zealand are unsurprisingly unchanged.

Avi Singh with you on commentary tonight, Gopi Rangarajan manning the scoring desk and Firdose Moonda is up at an early hour to bring you match reports throughout.

Check out the preview by George Binoy as we wait for play to begin.

Black armbands will be worn by the players tonight as the local cricket community is in mourning following the sad passing of Canterbury cricket icon Peter Sharp, who had been ill for some time. He was best known for his long service to domestic cricket commentary on Radio Sport, but also played first-class cricket and held many roles within both Canterbury Cricket and New Zealand Cricket, and was a major driver of grassroots cricket in Christchurch and the surrounding areas. The full story can be found here.

Simon Doull on the TV commentary has labelled South Africa 'a bunch of bullies'. The mind games have begun...

Firdose Moonda says that Marchant de Lange has only played one domestic T20 match. This will be a big test for him, he performed exceedingly well on Test debut in Durban against Sri Lanka but he is now away from home comforts in a format he is not familiar with.

Johan Botha will open the bowling to Rob Nicol

17.5

M Morkel to Franklin, OUT, well that was all a bit understated, a full ball outside off which Franklin tries to jam through third man, ball hits bat as bat is hitting ground and the edge goes through to AB, they appeal and the umpire takes a while to send Franklin on his way as the players just stand around momentarily

19.6

de Lange to Williamson, 1 bye, this is full outside off, Kane tries to swing to leg and misses, they manage to rush through for a bye

New Zealand end up on 173, which feels a touch light given the wickets in hand and the early progress they had made. South Africa were excellent in the field and Botha was miserly, as were the bowlers entrusted with the death overs. South Africa are in the driver's seat, can they chase this down to level the series? Join us shortly for the chase.
