Zimbabwe in New Zealand ODI Series - 3rd ODI

New Zealand v Zimbabwe

New Zealand won by 202 runs

1.30pm Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the 3rd dead-rubber ODI between New Zealand and Zimbabwe from a beautifully sunny McLean Park in Napier.

Toss: The first toss of the coin landed on the TV camera cord, so they had to re-do it. On the second go New Zealand win the toss finally and decide to have a bat.

A fair few changes for both sides: New Zealand bring Michael Bates in for his first appearance, while Nathan McCullum and Doug Bracewell also come back. Out go Kyle Mills, Tim Southee and the injured Dean Brownlie, who fractured a finger dropping a catch in the last ODI in Whangarei.

Zimbabwe have dropped both Masakadza brothers, Tino Mawoyo coming in at the top for Hamilton and the left-armer Brian Vitori comes in for Shingi.

The pitch looks much more like a traditional McLean Park wicket - very, very flat. If Zimbabwe don't get their act together in the field, it could be another long 50 overs for them as they try to avoid being completely Zimbabwe-qued!

Avi Singh with you on scoring and commentary again today, the Twitterers among you might want to follow me @MannerOfSpeakin. Andrew Fernando is also with us again today doing match reports. His toss summary will be up shortly.

Jon: "Zimbabwe-qued?? Terrible joke to start the day!" Apologies all round, sounds better when said in a charming southern African accent!

Rogan wants improvement from the tourists: "Here's hoping that Zimbabwe at least put together some semblance of a decent effort, I can take losing while showing some progress, not the maulings we are being handed recently."

Warren: "Great to see Bates in - if anyone deserves an international call up its him." Yes, Michael Bates has been extremely consistent over the last few seasons for Auckland in the limited-over forms and was probably unlucky not to have been selected last season, when he had a brilliant HRV Cup rounded off with a triple-wicket maiden in the final, even better than his stellar performances this season.

David: "Don't hold a grudge Jon, after all it is only a place to park your car (said in thick Saffa accent ala Tony Greig)".

Before play begins, do check out Firdose Moonda's typically thorough match preview. She can also be found on Twitter @FirdoseM.

Oliver: "Despite Guptills brilliant run of form lately he's often lost concentration after getting 50. Hopefully today he can make three figures, he's starting to look like Stephen Fleming." He would definitely want to make the most of the starts he's been getting.

Rex: "@ Jon: Actually, I kinda liked it. I might just steal it." Not if I have anything to say about it!

Nathan seems to be thinking along the same lines: "Would be well disappointed with anything less than 500 today".

Sam: "I don't know why teams don't open the bowling with spin against Guptill. His form is outrageously good against the seamers, but by and large his scoring rate drops and his wicket falls against the slower bowlers."

New Zealand are cruising at the first drinks break. What can Zimbabwe do to turn things around? New Zealand had taken the batting Powerplay at the beginning of the 16th over, by the way.

Tony: "Love how people are talking up NZ when they didn't bowl Zimbabwe out last time. Is any else worried about what may happen against SA's batting line up?"

Scott: "It's exciting to see players finally run into some form, however after years of being a NZ supporter, It's hard to see this form continuing against the likes of Aus or SA.. To take nothing away from Zimbabwe they are playing like a domestic side, and NZ cricketers have a huge habit of performing well in Domestic and being out of their depth against quality opposition that hold their line & length, and take their catches."

BB McCullum c Mawoyo b Jarvis 119 (120m 88b 7x4 5x6) SR: 135.22

Well was that a case of deja vu or what? New Zealand have again blown Zimbabwe to smithereens, Vitori has recorded the second-most expensive bowling figures in an ODI and was lucky he didn't bowl his final over, and Zimbabwe's fielding was generally abysmal again. Will they just look to bat out 50 overs like they did in the last ODI, or will they try to chase this mammoth total down? Join us at 6.05pm local time to find out. Andrew Fernando's report will be up shortly once he's finished lamenting being turned into a statistician with the records tumbling down faster than the Maldives government!
