Shane Bond: surviving another injury scare

Shane Bond has received some encouraging news after the results of his MRI scan were assessed. Bond had complained of pain in the back but Warren Frost, New Zealand Cricket's medical co-ordinator, said that the scan results indicated it was nothing serious.

"Shane's MRI scan has been examined by NZC doctor, Rob Campbell, and the initial review has shown no disc injury or bony oedema (bone bruising). We will be continuing to monitor Shane very closely over the next few days and if we do not see any significant improvement, further medical investigations will be considered."

Initially, the worst was feared when Bond reported back pain during a club match last weekend, similar to that which forced him out of international cricket in May. That injury had required complete rest over the winter. The recovery programme began during spring and was nearing completion when the recent scare occurred.
