A lengthy rain delay resulted in a six-over shoot out, which Wellington won comfortably and left Central Districts still searching for their first win of the HRV cup.

Marty Kain and Doug Bracewell picked up three wickets for Central Districts between them in the first three overs but the Wellington scoring rate was hardly affected. Then Graham Napier, the big-hitting allrounder from Essex, and Grant Elliott ransacked 61 runs in 19 balls to propel Wellington to 88 at the end of their quota of six overs. Napier powered three hits out of the ground, while Elliott slammed four sixes.

The chase began with seamer Brent Arnel handing out golden ducks to Jamie How and Joshua Cobb. Though Peter Trego and Carl Cachopa did their best to battle an ever-rising required rate, which was 14.83 at the start of the innings, the target proved a bit too much.
