Clive Lloyd is willing to meet with the West Indies Cricket Board
(WICB) to discuss the woeful New Zealand tour.
The outgoing manager of the West Indies senior team said Friday he had
indicated to the WICB that 'if they wish to see me, I will make
arrangements to do so'.
Lloyd was absent from last Wednesday's debriefing session between WICB
officials and members of the West Indies cricket squad which lost both
the recent Test (2-0) and One-Day (5-0) series in New Zealand.
Chief executive officer of the WICB, Stephen Camacho, said then that
Lloyd had a previous commitment and the latter confirmed this,
dismissing talk that he did not come to the special meeting because of
friction between himself and the board.
'I had a very important appointment and I told them I couldn't make
it. It was something I had delayed more than once and that
(Wednesday's meeting) was a spur-of-the-moment thing.
What's wrong
'I figured my report would come in and they had Viv Richards (coach)
and the captain (Brian Lara) who could give an account of what
transpired,' said the former West Indies captain, speaking from his
home in England.
Asked what went wrong in New Zealand, Lloyd put the regional side's
dismal performance down to 'inexperience'.
'It's not that New Zealand were any better than we were. It's just
that we have young cricketers who are inexperienced. Some of them only
have one first-class hundred. Most of our young players don't know how
to build an innings when they are confronted with certain situations.
'They haven't gone through the system that most cricketers go through
before they get to top-class cricket,' he said.
