A cultured early order bat, Mike made his debut for Scotland in 1987, scoring 79 in his first innings against Ireland. However, he fell out of favour with the selectors in 1990 and did not regain his place in the national side until 1994. He now has a total of 36 caps with a top score of 100 not out against M.C.C. at Lord's in 1994. A tremendously entertaining stroke player he has also bowled in several games for Scotland although with less frequency in recent seasons. He has played a fair amount of senior rugby in Scotland. He is keen to make a big impact on the ICC Trophy competition so he resigned from his job as a sales representative in order to play cricket during the northern hemisphere winter months in Australia.
