TEAMS
Les Harris played both cricket and football for Barbados in the 1940s but, after several years as a school teacher, became popular in later life as a radio sports commentator. Widely known as "Shell", a nickname of inexplicable origin, Harris captivated listeners with his thick Bajan brogue and idioms in commentaries on cricket, football and, especially, boxing. He was a contemporary of Frank Worrell at Combermere School where he first came to notice as a flighty spin bowler and dogged lower order batsman.
